Quick question to you guys who responded to Romerito's upload - is this useful to you because you already have the original recording to refer to or do you find tab by itself useful anyhow?

Pesonally I can't use flamenco tabs if don't have the recordings, its just numbers on page. I read tab and music fine, its just that in flamenco I really want to hear the tone and phrasing for it to be of any use.

Where's this from, Romerito?

Thanks.

Interesting question Jon. For me there is enough info in that file to learn and play that falseta. I had a teacher from Madrid who was a Paco fan-he played tons of his falsetas, but would often change a little thing here or there. Some people might have felt that he should have cleaned things up a little, but his personal take on the falsetas made his playing more alive to me. It also showed a greater understanding of compas than someone who copied something exactly. So to me, there is more than enough there to work it out, even with out the midi playback.

Jon, me 2.
I only find tabs usefull when i got the original music so that i can try to copy and play like the original.
As you said, in Flamenco its different and its not like classic.
You cant Tab that way or feeling in Flamenco songs.

So its usefull for me becauce i have both albums from pedro ( Decision and Nikelao )

Probably because you're a lot more experienced? I dunno, i just have to hear the timing of all the notes, the dynamics , the whole feel of it.

I just had a thought actually - would be fun to learn the falseta from Romerito's tab (without even playing back the midi) and then go and listen to the original and see how far off I am

Well maybe your right Jon. I spent an hour messing with the falseta and playing it along with the midi and a compas track, but got the feeling that Pedro sounds a bit different I haven't been able to make it feel as good as it should. But I do think in another hour I could get it to sound like something I could play, but I doubt it would sound like the original. Now I'd like to hear it.
