1964 Esteso Conde Hermanos Concert F...

Hi, guys,
I know that Condes are always being posted in E-Bay, but this one looks particularly interesting. Any thoughts? The feedback appears impressive. I have never played one these older Condes of this vintage, but on record and from the MP3 clips I have heard, they can sound amazing. I already have a 2002 Conde which is nice, but one of these older ones would be interesting. The link is below.
Thank you in advance for any feedback!!

RE: 1964 Esteso Conde Hermanos Conce... (in reply to scholomance

I would advise a little caution about spending a forture on this guitar. The label has the Atocha address and it is unsigned. At about this time Julio Conde (who didn't really make his name as a luthier) opened this shop to sell guitars made by or on behalf of the other brothers (Mariano and Faustino). It could have been made at the Gravina shop or at the factory in Pozuela de Alarcon. The better guitars were always signed ('Conde Hermanos' or 'Conde Hnos') probably by Mariano or Faustine as the signatures vary. The headstock is probably not the one used on the very cheapest guitars. However the medial luna headstock was around at this time. The earliest media luna I have seen was from 1962 - but it looks as if it could have been faked! I have seen one that looks authentic from 1964. The best guitars I have come across from this period had the Gravina label on.

So much for the value BUT a lot of the cheaper unsigned guitars were very nice to play (in a kind of old fashioned way - vibrant, reponsive and with an instant feelgood factor). I have never owned one from this period but over the years I played with a lot of guitarists who had one and a I got a chance to play them.
