Sorry for the joke. But I wanted to help you and went to his website. I read there that there's a cd coming up with 16 rumbas on it. Yes sixteen. I thought that was very funny.

Dear Koella,
The joke made me laugh , so i am sorry for being not nice , but i was just bit nervous for not knowing how to contact him. And of course searching on google brings many sites and didnt know from where to start searching.

Sabo, Contact the venue where he is playing and speak to the Manager. Ask if it would be possible to meet with him either before or after the concert. Explain that you are a Flamenco Guitar student and would like a few words with him. Do it beforehand. Not on the encore at the venue.

He recorded more albums than you recorded flamenco songs (not mentioning they all reach maximally grade 2 of his solo method). [/quote] Hmmmmm... I think F--- you would be the appropriate response.

Sorry my grammar in English is not always as perfect as I hope.
Do you mean that the pieces that Juan Martín has recorded are of the level of grade two from his own book or do you mean that the pieces that Miguel de María recorded are of grade two from the book by Juan Martín?
Thank you in advance for any explanation you may be able to give.

I shouldn't have wasted my time responding to this person. The only time he contributes to this forum is when his idol, Juan Martin's, name is mentioned. And then he shows up to defend his honor and insult anyone who says anything disparaging or makes a joke about Juan. That seems to be his only purpose here.
RE: how to contact juan martin? (in reply to Miguel de Maria)
You shouldn't have wasted your time insulting Juan, you had better practice - Michael, the son of Marie. Btw. you should have checked my posts better.
If any of the Juan's antifans here think they're better than him, come on and prove it, upload some mp3 of his song played better by you. But I don't mean some crappy grade 2, but grade 8 from his second book, e.g. Aurora (Rondena) or Tarantas or any Bulerias.

I meant Miguel de Maria (per Michael son of Mary) songs are alike grade 2 pieces from Juan Martin's book. Oh.. maybe grade 3 - with the accompany of the second guitar ;)

Haha, good ol' Juan... you can always rely on him to stir things up a bit on the forum! IMO he's okay- probably a lot better than I'll ever be. To be honest, I have trouble telling "Good Flamenco" from "Bad Flamenco", but I know what I like. Juan's music is entertaining in places, but I don't rate it as highly as PDL and Sabicas' best stuff. Just my humble opinion.

J-bash, Juan, like Esteban, seems to attract a certain type of fanatical and irrational follower. Some people don't have much in the brains department, and sometimes if a famous musician says something nice to them they become their loyal disciples. This person here even seems to think that Juan is a better flamenco guitarist even than Grisha. So I can't take his lack of taste or judgement too personally. I'm sure people can go to my website and evaluate my sound samples with their own taste.

Juan is my friend (I'm doing his concerts in Poland) and my idol as a professional musician. It's not a coincidence he's almost as famous in the world as Paco de Lucia (not everywhere but in lots of countries). He recorded lots of albums full of tuneful pieces and even one great moorish-flamenco album (which attracted millions of fans from Arab countries). He also records albums like Camino Latino and Rumbas for non-flamencos, who are attracted by that. He can also play very good pure flamenco - I'll shortly upload Tarantas from his concert in Turkey to the Audio/Video section, I got it for promotion purposes from Juan. I hope he won't mind :) Everyone will have an opportunity to rate it, to place their in-depth opinions, instead of just saying Juan is a rumba playing circus-man, etc. without giving good reasons.
I ddin't say Juan is better than Grisha. Where have I said that? Besides, Grisha didn't criticize Juan, he did rather opposite.

Im sure im not as good as juan but that doesnt mean i can´t chose other guitarists before him.
Everyone can choose any guitarists, but I just can't stand someone insulting him as a musician - that he can't collect enough rumbas (or other toques) for his album or that he just can play funny rumbas. I could agree he's not that technically good as many flamenco players (he doesn't play fast picados as most younger players or such tremolos as Nunez), but I admire the aire, the flow and the melodic values of his compositions - it's very flamenco (pure flamenco) to me. Moreover, he plays very hard and loud, it's not that easy to play more complicated pieces that way. Regarding rumbas and rattling purses: Juan doesn't like to play rumbas in his concerts, but the public wants to hear it, he says that e.g. La Feria is not flamenco enough, and he's more into playing the major toques.
And what's the worst, many poeple here laugh at him, while probably he had bigger impact on promotion of flamenco to the world (especially in eastern europe,middle-east and Asia) than Paco de Lucia. So whatever is his flamenco value to you - Miguel de Maria - you should show some respect for such contributor to flamenco music as Juan.
RE: how to contact juan martin? (in reply to sabo)
Ranking of musicians.. Thats not possible. Some guitarrists are able to play the most dificult pieces as noone can play it. But it all sounds like crap. Than a guitarrist comes along with less good technic, but better compositions. And mybe these compositions are simple, they can be much better than the hardest composition perfect played. For example Jeronimo has a damn good technic. But his CD is horrible. And on the other hand, I heared a rumba "Lya" played on the disc "la nueva escuela de la guitarra flamenca" and this composition is very simple and easy to play but thouthad times nicer than all compositions on jeronimos dics together. But in the end rating feelings isnt possible.
From the technical viewpoint, Juan Martin is under floor class. But from th view of composition he is... eeh...? In the end hes very usefull for beginners to learn old flamenco of montoya and nino ricardo. If he would give a concert at my area, hmm I woul wanna see him. But only without dance.

Any reasoning?
See, your arguing in the sphere of TASTES, where any argue is... pointless. So, you have to decide what you want to say. a) anybody can have his favorite player coz everybody's taste is different (and Miguel would surely agree on that) OR b) judging on guitarrist regarding his "promotion of flamenco" is relevant
Besides, Miguel did not say anything but that the fellow plays many rumbas, tangos etc., which is obviously fact. If he dont want to play Rumbas he should STOP to do it. "The audience wants it" is a very dumb excuse. koella mentioned that he finds his music boring. I know some of his albums and would agree on that. IMO you cant compare JM to masters of composition AND playing like PdL. JM is a good tution/didactic player, but comparing him to PdL would be like comparing a slaughter with a surgeon But again, thats just me... (and a few others i guess )
