I try to imagine the people naked. Then i look at those thousands-of-hours-of-dance-well-shaped bailaoras and GET EVEN MORE NERVOUS

No seriously, i think technique is the key. If you really can play it you are much more confident.

Oops LOL, sorry Flo, i just wanted to see if one can get under 0 score so i rated you post. Obviously one can!

One great advice I got from my former classical guitar teacher was to put pieces on your playlist that are far under your level. So you'd be confident and have a nice day before the concert. And then keep the difficult pieces as an option. So you can always choose to not play them.

I get nervous as hell. Even just playing in front of an instructor is nearly impossible to do near the level I can play alone. Same thing when trying to record myself.

I feel like it's really holding me back. I've decided to venture outdoors more with my guitar. I was playing in my back yard the other day when I noticed my neighbor was trying to figure out where the music was coming from. As she came closer, she began to pretend to tend to her garden near where I was playing, but I got the impression she wanted to hear the music. The more I focussed on her, the worse the playing got. I could only make it 1/2 through one of JM's levl 3 rumbas before I called it quits. My audience was on the other side of a six foot wood fence, and couldn't see me, yet I got stage fright to the point of being unable to finish the piece....pathetic!

Samwise, didn't you read my post? I said you have to take it gradually. Next time make sure the wall hiding you from your audience is at least 5 ft. thick!

yeh florian i was recommended that book on a similar post i did a while ago and i bought it. i would recommend it as it really shows you the mentality issues where one part of your conscious brain interferes with another, therefore hiding your true ability (these are the little annoying thoughts in your head that divert you off of actually focussing on playing).

i must admit though i havent finished reading it yet as i got quite fed up with the way the writer insists on reminding you how fantastic his breakthrough is and how tremendously it works!! but really, a good book

Quote from PDL: "If you think you are going to make a mistake, you are lost."

This stage fright thing has been easily over come for ages by tons of great artists, with alcohol and drugs. It really works.

Hi, I'm Luka and I suffer from a stage fright.

Seriously, it's a horrible thing for me too. But yes, it's getting easier with experiences.

And I couldn't agree more with this:

quote:

Miguel de Maria: To start, I'll share that I have sufffered horrible stage fright, to the point that I would fall apart and never even be able to finish a piece if I played it for someone. It wasn't until much later that I realized that I hardly ever finished pieces when practicing by myself, either.

90 percent of the time I get nervous and 10 percent I get in the zone and forget who I am and just play.

Yep kicking ass playing killer hit record and it all falls to pieces.

why why why.
