It´s very good i think.
Something i like very much is that he plays "punta umbra" the fandangos of the "fabulosa guitarra" LP instead of any modern fandangos.

How ever i think the Sabicas part is that best.

To be honoust. I ordered Grisha's cd just to sponsor him. I won't be listening to it a lot cause I just set myself to see flamenco and classical as two seperate disciplines.

On his cd Grisha tries IMO to focus on combining the two.

No offense. Grisha seems a nice sensitive guy. But I just don't want to get confused again.

So Grisha. If you ever come to Holland I will be glad to sponsor you more with a good bottle of wine and a good diner. On the other hand. We all would.
And I would hate to see you drunk all day

It's on my list Henrik and I'll definitely get it..
I've got to limit myself to stuff as I get "information overload" quickly!
It took me 6 months to get through the "Rito y Geografia" collection.

I promised myself the next thing I'm gonna get is "Camaron..The Movie".

But I'm definitely gonna get Grisha's CD!
(Wish it had been a DVD though as I love watching him play!)

cheers

I wouldn´t see Grisha as a classical guitarist trying to play flamenco.
Hes a guitarist who can and know theses styles just as good in my opinion.
When he plays the Classical pieces i feel it like theres a flamenco guitarist playing classical and when he play flamenco, well he IS flamenco at that moment. not a TRYING guitarist with just great technique

Henrik

I know I know Henrik.
Like I stated it's just a personal thing at this moment.

I can hear he knows both disciplines equally well. Maybe that's the confusing part. Knowing that someone like me will never be able to do that.

Yes I have and also had the chance of listening to it. Im a bit ambivalent about it. Asturias with golpes? That was awesome! But the picado in Cepa Andaluza? Hm, dont know. I cannot imagine that its G's playing. It must be something with the mixing or the guitar or the strings? In any case its not comparable to the original IMO, which is clearer and stronger.

Overall a good CD of course! Dont want to be misunterstood here
Good sound quality. A bit different from what I am used to, but it has its own "charm". Regarding the tone it's more between classical and flamenco mostly. Of course I would have wished it to be more on the flamenco side, but I will survive it.

Everybody who doesnt know G should also checkout his videos - each one a great performance!

I haven't heard the CD yet, but I really don't have one bad thing to say about his playing. I would be an idiot. He is phenomenal. I think the guitar world has long been waiting for a guy who could perform such a powerful and also clean flamenco (or guitar playing in general). He reminds me of young Pepe Romero, but I hope he'll choose a different path.

All the best!

Yeah, that will be those new Luthier 'fast picado' strings, I'm thinking of getting some myself.

There's also a really good VSTi software plug-in you can get called 'machine gun picado' which is great when you are at the mixing down stage. Just highlight the wave in your sequencer, add about 20% depth, and bingo. It speeds up your picado whilst maintaining pitch, removing any fingering noise plus adding a staccato effect. Instant Paco.

Todd used to pull these studio tricks all the time, now the poor guy has to make videos to prove he can actually play a bit.

Oops Jon! Maybe you read the post again?

I was just trying carefully to point out my opinion. At the end of the sequence where it goes down to the A-string it gets louder. I wished it would have been as loud as that the whole picados through. I mean, didnt you hear "Punta del Faro"? For me it is a huge difference. OK, its PdL...but on the other hand it is also G and he can play guitar too, cant he?
I mean, even me can play that scale, but not at that speed of course .. oh well, maybe one day?

Yeah, I know what you mean. See, the action on my guitar was around 5 cm. above the 12 fret and the sound didn' break up no matter what I did with the guitar. And I did everything. The volume of my playing was insane. But the problem with that was I played everything loud, and picado didn't stand out as it should have. Now I lowered the action, and can play with Paco's sound. But too late...

G.

That is true actually, the action needs to be low enough
to get that "pop" or some say, "break up".

Grisha is playing a classical guitar with Classical action, wich is quite high.

The fact that he can make a bulerias sound that great on a classical
is simply miraculous.
More than i can describe.

5 cm! I'm American, but even I know that's high! Is that a guitar you have, Grisha, or an upright bass!

It wasn't clear from your original post what you were saying. I thought you were trotting out the daft assumption that G. couldn't possibly be that good - must be the guitar, or the strings, or the studio etc... I've seen that kind of comment quite a lot on this forum.

Sorry if I misunderstood.

Well, no. But this topic has already been closed, since G replied that it was the action, so I dont know what u want to talk about now?
Didnt ya read?! He plays with an action of 5cm!

Yes, now I know the secret! 5cm action do make you play like Paco! Hm...

Anyways, thanks G for the album! I think maximum 2 seconds out of 60 minutes or so, weren't 100% perfect; Im sure you can live with that!

And for the rest: buy it, buy it, buy it! Or at least have a look at the previews and then make your own decision.

Its балалайка duende!
