Guitar Methods for accompanying

I noticed that most of the learning methods out there like Koster, Herrero, Martin, Cordoba etc.etc., are geared more for learing solo flamenco guitar.

Does anyone know of any out there that emphasize guitar accompanyment. How about the methods by Graf-Martinez?

Saludos amigos.

Good luck on this one, Tom!

I might suggest getting real old school stuff, like, Don Chacon, Antonio Mairena, and Caracol and just picking it up from the records. They don't use very many chords and if you know the basic flamenco rhythms I would think you would be ahead of the game.

Tom;

Check out Juan Serrano and Oscar Herrero for starters along with Manuel Granados. I have them all - and they are all over the house right now - our son has been looking at them!

I have Herrero's video and book on accompanying Solea. Looks pretty good.

Tom,

If you were to choose only one of the above for cante accompaniment, which would it be?

Thanks,
Phil

Phil;

Manuel Granados volume 4 - Manual Didactico de la guitarra flamenca – covers Accompaniment to the cante of Solea, siguiriya, malagueña, fandango, granaina and tientos.

It breaks down each piece thusly with examples on CD and the notation plus letras:

1. Cante y acompañamiento
2. Solo acompañamiento
3. Cante solo

This helps to give a good foundation for the guitarist to accompany a singer in flamenco. There is something to be learned from all sources. Being in Spain would be of great benefit or being married to a singer. In my case Katy sings and dances flamenco but I have not gotten her interested in playing guitar, even though I bought her a nice instrument years ago.
