Polo: Carmen de la Jara

Normally, when we are eating we listen to blues, country, rock. Although I have lots of flamenco CDs they are usually ignored.

I only play José Millán, my maestro, and this great CD by Carmen.

I think that the only person in USA who has these 2 CDs is el maestro Ricardo

two of my favorites, with an excellent variety of rare (these days) cantes. Also the story about the taurinos of the early years in the liner notes of Carmen's album was informative. The cantes follow the suggested or implied themes of the 1838 observations of Serafin estebañez Calderon (the mayor who witnessed Planeta and Fillo having a discussion about singing in Triana, and then a big juerga). It is really fun to follow along to that account while listening to this, and really gives you a feeling that flamenco culture has not changed much at all in 180 years.
