But the opportunities dont take your encouragement away! You just need less time, less effort to do something. And by the way, learning guitar is **** hard, STILL!
Wouldnt it be very dumb, to not use all possible ressources of the time your living in? This goes for producing a DVD as well as travelling to spain, if you have the money for it.

So, I dont take those "elder" people not really serious, when they say "it was all different in our time". Is is a moralistic way of judging these things, u know?! Instead, they should be happy, that people today (inclusively THEM!) have more opportunities. Besides, its the result that counts. If "googling" is enough for you to become as good as you want yourself to be then theres nothing to say. If you are not willing to do the necessary things to become good, you have to blame yourself, except if you dont have the means to do/get these necessary things.

Hey, I wouldn't have been playing flamenco today if it weren't for Oscar Hererro's DVDs and Juan Martin's. That got me started, and the availability of this material made it possible for me to explore this art.

Wasn't like this 20 years ago. At that time I was also interested in flamenco, but since the only way back then to learn flamenco was to travel to Spain, and that was not an option I could afford, I didn't pick up flamenco at that time.

After I started with the DVDs I found a teacher who has moved me ahead leaps. I don't think I could have ever achieved the level of playing and understanding of flamenco I have now if I were to rely only on the DVDs.
