I am one of the few guitarists I know that plays heavy rasgueado for baile frequently, that never used the fake nails, only glue. I have had to briefly use paper towel fake nails if they broke (only due to heavy rehearsal time with little or no chance to reprotect them after glue was litterally strummed off), but in general the heavy players used fake nails regularly that I have ever met. Honestly, considering Moraito did not like playing for baile but only cante, I was surprised he used them. It definitely gives rasgueados a big sound with less effort, I can attest to that at least.

I agree on the huge rasqueados sound as I remember when using acrylic nails 20 years ago. But the picado and other techniques required too much effort
