They cited travel difficulties, whatever that really means. I live in the UK so thankfully it was going to be just a day trip to London and I hadn't left yet as the email arrived...

Oh yeah! Southampton. Well I am in Spain now and was sad to miss this... But seeing as it's not happening... I wouldn't say im happy but..you get what I mean! 😄
belated thanks for posting this up. despite being on their mailing list and getting endless emails about shows i have no interest in, i saw this before Sadlers Wells sent anything, and booked straight away.
My first flamenco guitar teacher lent me a tape of Riqueni's 2nd album and I have been listening to him ever since, about 30 years, and finally got to see/hear him live last night.

Sat in front of Riqueni in the front row last night, small theatre with no stage. Beautiful, soulful compositions, a fragility that never falls apart, the man has music in him.
Tonight Enrique el Extremeño's solea was outstanding. Mercedes de Córdoba and Águeda Saavedra for me two of the best female dancers right now. It was a large theatre show, and as is the fashion borrowing from Pina Bausch, but still managed to have raw emotion and flamenco puro. Juan Campallo was excellent, for me one of the best players por baile these days.

They missed their flight apparently, which begs the question why they have to risk travelling on the morning of the concert at all. Even if rebooking may be possible for one person, surely not for an entire band plus whoever else there was. There was some rumour they might reschedule for Sunday, but it was unfounded.
Thankfully I've seen Vicente some 12 years ago so I'm slightly less disappointed, but I'm sure for many people it was a major disappointment.
