The boxed set put out by the Conjunto de Andalucia, which sits on my shelves, is titled "La Voz de Estaño Fundido."
I don't think I could ever pare the list of essential cantaores down to three, but Pastora would definitely be on any list I would make, along with her brother Tomas Pavon.
We have good cantaores still: but who can sing como Tomás y Pastora? And who knows el cante enough to know?
Luckily we have recordings and many classics on youtube in order to develop tastes. Afición will probably last in some form, even if the singers can’t do it. In the far future will exist some small groups that try to recreate those classics.
