I love Manolo's playing on Tauromagia, but find much of his other work far less interesting and exciting, from a musicial / compositional perspective. According to my guitar teacher, one of the reasons Tauromagia is amazing is in large part due to the contributions of his brother, Isidro.
Besides the Tauromagia album, can you share other albums or individual pieces that come close to the greatness of those on Tauromagia ? Links would be great, if they're available.

Not an album but a video concert called Mariana Pineda with Sara Baras is good music. Medea is good too. The album with Carmen Linares is not bad either, brisa y locura.

Gave those a listen - not bad, but they don't hold a candle to Tauromagia, IMHO...it just might be he did have a lot of help with the compositions on that landmark album : )

Tauromagia is a unique oddity in the pantheon of flamenco guitar. I would not say Isidro is to blame, he has done lots of projects that also don’t stand up to the bullfight album. Perhaps he contributed to the estribillos but those don’t affect the playing of Manolo which speaks for itself. The rondeña evolved, for example, from an older version with a similar tremolo idea as seen here:
As I mentioned a while back, the excellent duet buleria with paco shows a progression from Mclaughlin that was used on “de Capote”. A shame only the two duets with Paco were ever realized instead of a full album. So I feel Tauromagia is simply a crossroads in time where Manolo as a player and composer had evolved and all the elements happened to come together in a meaningful way. His playing on Rito y Geografia is good too, but obviously an older style. I feel this same cross roads situation happened with Paco’s Siroco (1987) and Zyryab (1990) albums, and together with Tauromagia (1988), the older generation opened a door for all the next generation maestros to do excellent work:Tomatito, Nuñez, Vicente, Enrique del Melchor, etc etc. I feel the other sevillanas Manolo plays is cool, and of course he kept this style going into the last Saura movie:
