RE: El niño Miguel (in reply to Tenshu

Wow, I just checked his Solea video (the Vals I didnt like as composition) and he is truly a monster. Well, I dont know if there a gene for that too, but if yes I wanna have it!

nono, edit:

Genes, I wanna have:

Pacos picado and composing skills, Vicentes "Im gonna cry now"-sound, Paco Penas arpegios, ... hm this has no end.
I guess it boils down to that I have to decide myself how much Im gonna practise, yet with no guarantee how effective it is in the end.
Oh well

Thanks for the upload, cneberg. I have the video these clips are coming from, but I think it's not a bad idea to upload more. It's like spreading the Message, you know? People need to hear this!

Alegria:

I think he goes a bit over the top here (a few "suspicious" notes). Still, you got to like his free spirit...

Regarding the videos: Are they available to buy as originals?

Saludos Bernd

RE: El niño Miguel (in reply to cneberg

cneberg,
Thanks so much for posting those videos!
First time I've seen/heard him play so much stuff.
Shows you this 30 year old stuff aint that bad...depending on how it's played..
Looks like an old RTE program on him or something?
Excellent material for the world to see!

Looked a bit like an "Anders" guitar he was playing, as it's the only other make I've seen with the "zigzag" rosette!

Anders....It must have been quite an experience to see him play in Huelva.
How did he sound in comparison to those videos?
What was his attitude etc?

It's funny but it seems quite a few geniuses seem to come from some kind of isolated inner world within themselves that doesn't really relate to the "competition" or what's happening outside that world...
I don't think we can judge them in the same way we judge other "normal" people.
Maybe they sometimes give up and retreat further into that inner world with the help of drink or drugs, like many great creators/performers have done.

Maybe rather that criticising the chosen lifestyle of folk like El Niño or even Jimi, or Jim Morrison...Janis...Marylin...Charlie Parker...Hemmingway..George Best... etc..etc....we should maybe just all be grateful that these talented people took those years out of their lives to enrich the lives of us lesser mortals?

cheers

Ron

That's precisely why I think it would be good to have him interviewed and recorded.
It may be that he no longer has the future he might have had, but I'm sure that he still has more to enrich with.

RE: El niño Miguel (in reply to XXX

I don't know if these videos are for sale. there are series of "Tesoros De La Guitarra Flamenca" and yes, they are from TVE (TV Española). I found them via popular shareware program that you all know.... But then again, if someone put them up there, there must be a DVD collection or something.

I was really impressed when I heard Niño play for the first time. We had an old vynil record called "Spanish Guitar" and there were mainly Paco's tunes, one from Melchor De Marchena and one from Niño. Niño played solea from the video: "En El Puente Nicoba". It really striked me, because his playing was different, dangerous, full of passion and fire, although his technique wasn't really as good as Paco's (my humble opinion).

It really is a shame, because like someone said before, he had the looks, he played great, had charisma, everything.... But the bigger the star is the faster it burns....

Man, you're dredging up a lot of old threads here. It's cool though because I got to laugh at Koella's irreverance again.

I don't know that 'tio' really has to mean uncle. I seem to recall meeting some Hispano somewhere who would call someone 'tio' sort of like someone might call another 'compadre' (despite neither being anyone's padrino).

I was looking through a book by ese Graf-Martinez who mentioned Niño Miguel spent about 20 years in an institution. He didn't mention anything about him being related.

De hecho, IRC, hails from Huelva (sounds like Huerva, que no?) and Tomatito is from Almeria and Miguel is only 6 years older than Tomatito, not that age means anything.

Juan Carlos Romero was one of the solo artists at this year's Bienial. According to Zata's write-up for DeFlamenco, he and his group performed part of their show with no shoes on. Romero said it was in memory of Nino Miguel "who now walks barefoot, like Christ." Then he played a piece called La Sombra (the shadow) "because Nino Miguel is but a shadow of what he once was."

I thought that was a pretty cool tribute from a current successful artist who is willing to use a forum like the Bienal to remember a guy like Nino Miguel and bring attention to his plight.

Travis.

I know about the use of the word "tio" by the gypsys

This is not gipsy stuff. You hear the use tio everywhere, even by nicely dressed elderly men in the telly.

Tio, (besides meaning uncle) its like using 'man' in English. Hey man, how are you? = Hola Tio, ¿como estas? (como andas, que hay, como vas etc.)

I was just advising the use of caution when reading stuff. Apparently you had actually read a lot more than I so you knew what you were talking about.

Which is cool.

If they are related, I hope that whatever ails/ed Nino Miguel is heredetary. We wouldn't want Tomatito to disappear for 20 years.

It's vogue for the Mexicans to call everyone guey now. Girls even call girls guey. But online they spell it with a 'w'

And yeah, I'd meant "isn't" earlier.

RE: El niño Miguel (in reply to XXX

guay is a word that is used a lot here.:

My Spa-spa dictionary says:

guay: adj.

I´m not a native english speaker so you I might be wrong, but use reminds of the use of words like cool

I wasnt talking about gays or lesbianas, but I do misspell a lot...

Maybe hhehheh, but I´m not sure hhhhehhehhe, somehow hhehhehhe I´ve got the feeling their are Tios, no?

BTW, everyone talk about poor Niño Miguel, and I´m not going to say he´s doing well, but he liked playing for those of us who were there, and IMHO it was a very personal and fine performance.

So long live Miguel

Well spotted....10 points!

(Fancy a job as Admin?)

Threads here often twist and turn and cause somebody GBH.
Admin's job is to try to anticipate it.

In my experience, it usually arises out of a very mild post to begin with, especially when there is a bit of a lull and not too many interesting posts, maybe after a dull weekend.
Then somebody posts a reply and the anemometer starts to spin a little bit faster and the temperature begins to rise...

I must admit I feel ashamed that I have had my part in starting a lot of these heated threads by occassionally posting those silly, strange Zen/Philosophical/Theoretical posts on some aspect of Flamenco that has no real answer, and is of course, of no practical value at all to anybody, but usually results in people threatening to kill each other and leaving the Forum.

(I'm sure Ricardo remembers the "Perfect Rhythm" thread that was the forerunner to the close-down of the Flamenco-Teacher Forum... )

Oh well...what's been said has been said.
Pointless deleting the archives.
Just move on to a new day.
But despite the odd punchup, I still like the mix of dynamics here.

cheers

Ron
