Frank Sinatra

Today, December 12, would have been Frank Sinatra's hundredth birthday. I mention this because I think Frank Sinatra is the definitive American singer. He, more than any other, embodies American music and singing from the big band era through the late twentieth century. I predict that long after famous American rock, folk, country and other singers are forgotten, you will still hear Frank sinatra's classic voice. There may be some like Elvis Presley and Woody Guthrie who last in their niche, but none with the wide-spread appeal of Sinatra. My personal favorite of Sinatra's songs is his rendition of "It Was a Very Good Year." But his classic "saloon" song is "One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)." To hear him sing that is to imagine yourself in a bar at 3:00 AM after your "babe" has just walked out on you. Great stuff. I think that this evening I will salute Frank Sinatra on his hundredth with a second glass of jerez. Here's to you, Frank! Bill
