Rey del Tremolo

i was listening to one of the greats from the past and was kinda unimpressed with his tremolo. okay, but not nearly on par with what i have heard so far from other greats

anyway, i vote for Gerardo for king of the tremolo. even tone and rhythm and tons of dynamic range. has his injury affected this? (when did Jucal come out, b4 or after?)

it's not typically continuous in these examples but soooo... expressive (@ 2:10) and even better on the album

my favorite tremolo guy is Manolo Sanlucar. Gerardo is great...he taught me how to do it anyway. Yerma is my favorite of his. Honestly his strong point for me was always his ARPEGIO....saddly both techniques have been affect such that a good 70% of his music has been eliminated from his concerts.

on a positive note he still have amazing expression and performing ability despite his forced change of technique.

Me too! Yerma is an absolute monster! a masterpiece.

What are you basing your tremolo king making on DavRom?
I kinda guess you touched on it but old timey tremolo while technically impressive leaves me a bit cold composition wise.

I've just returned to study a tremolo composition from Santiago Lara that I transcribed. (Tono de Rondena) Beautiful composition and some rather fancy hand positions. cant a find a video to share of him playing it. maybe ill upload myself as my entry into rey del tremolo tournament!

@ Ricardo
oh no! Manolo Sanlucar was the guitarist i was listening to. i don't remember the piece right now. i'll look for it again.

yeah, Yerma! sux about his injury and no recovery. but no injury can affect his musical/expressive abilities

@Stu I base it on what i said above, even tone and rhythm and tons of dynamic range.

If it is OK to post favorite tremolo passages with out crowning any one as the king of tremolo. The tremolo passages in Callejon Del Muro ranks high for me.

lol, that is indeed beautiful. thanks for that! what i was listening to earlier was a rondeña of his on an old TV program

i think the tremolo in the middle of this rondeña is not unlike Geraldo's:

I agree, IMO PDL's tremolo falseta's is never overly romantic. More of a gloomy tension that is released by some joy.

Yeah this one is awesome, heard it the other day by "accident "when you-tubing random flamenco videos and this one loaded while standing in the kitchen and had to run to the computer to see who was playing.

This Solea by Rafael Riqueni has some nice tremolo falsetas as well.
