I have a grey beard now and I usuaully shave everyday. But Simon is so dignified it may inspire me to get a short haircut and grow enough chin hair to read Shakespeare aloud.

I never grew a beard except for once when I was about 28. My family hated it and pestered me to shave because my dad wore beard and everyone one on the other side of my family hated him, thus it reminded them of him. But now that I don't see that side of the family I can wear a beard in Japan an it will be evaluated by how I look, not by how it reminded others of things they did not want to think about. I no longer have to be defined by the bias of others in the beard realm.......well there is one I must answer to....but this can be negotiated.

As far as the photo, I love the black and white also and if this is the new Zeiss lens in action in combination with Simons technique I am still having camera envy.

I have a Zeiss Icon 2 1/4 neg. format. It's from 1939. I fantasize the someday there will be a digital interface of some type so that old cameras can be used to shoot digitally. Like having a Poloroid back on a camera, only it's a digital back.

I know that is a daft idea for many technical reasons, why not just by another digital camera, but something about this idea appeals to me. Maybe nostalgia.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't 'pose' very often and I really like portraits but my pretty wife is terrible camera shy and very fussy.

Stephen - a couple of things, my beard is overgrown but normally I clip it short because I got fed up with shaving. My hair is tied back into a pony tail but I am thinking about cutting it short for a change.

This is the Zeiss 35mm on the Sony RXR1, which I am still learning about. The photo was taken in the mirror and was tricky to focus at f2. I have since edited the post to flip the image.

You are not alone in wanting a digital back that would it a classic film camera. There are very expensive devices like this, but I would love digital 'film' that would fit all 120 and 35mm cameras. It will arrive one day from some hipster boutique, I am sure.

Rushing over the idea it seems as if it wouldn´t be too hard to supply something like that, the more as all the controls wouldn´t be needed digitally. And as most analog roll film backs should have been plain in the exposing sector, it appears like doable to me to have a sensor bearing base (with elevating screws to adjust to the original celluloid plane) with a unit attached for A/C conversion, battery and card holder, which one would be sticking in there too.

However, camera sales appear to be facing a drop, with quality and technical capacity possibly leading to saturation effects similar of the PC market. From there, hypothetic makers of such a camera converting kit, like Sony should be less declined to cannibalize on their photo segment, unless it was for special margins.
That and a rather small potential number of clients for a retro adaptor / small production numbers to feed the mill with, would leave the product outside from realistic pricing.

Having said that, there´s just been a release from a smaller company who made an amazing housing which turns your iPhone into a considerable camera. If entepreneurs like that could make sensor manufacturers to come out with chips and environment ...

Technically, I prefer to have all those controls and options of conventional DSLRs, but can definitly understand the wish for haptics and design of good old housing, - and the nostaligia anyway. Once almost bought a small digital camera that was beautifully housed in the good old way, with chrome parts & all. Would have been great for the pocket.

Makes me think it could be something to have all of us sitting in a pub together once.

Had it years ago with my audio pals in Berlin, and it was great, but don´t think that it could be happening with the foro anytime soon (for me), unfortunately.

During the $500,000,000 program to modernize the radars at Kwajalein, hundreds of man-hours--maybe thousands-- were spent in often heated discussions about the design for the new control interfaces. The military-industrial complex's top human interface designers from Mitre Corporation were brought in. Their advice was rejected.

Nobody ever said "haptic." I had to look it up.

Hours afterwards it came to me that there would be no LCD screen to look up photos made, possibly making the idea unpractical, -unless those foil screens were to enter the market whichs invention was reported quite some years ago already without any news on practical release following.

Besides, in case anyone here being experienced with (camera) batteries.
I used to be amazed about the less than 3 year old LP-E6 battery of my Canon baby, which would take hours of operation and easily over 1000 full frame shots without even reaching to ~ 1/3 of its capacity.

Until mid summer this year. Now it is suddenly being displayed as of low capacity, by estimation only capable of 300 or so shots.

Is such sudden decline common for such a rechargeable (lithium-ion)?

Haptic is a word that should be used more. I like this word because it pertains to guitar making, but no one uses his great word.

Ruphus you may be the Dylan Thomas of dysfunctional syntax, but you can sure pull out a good word now and then.

I think to have used it before on the foro, in respect of finish / shape in guitar making.
Dysfunctional syntax? You should see me yet syntaxing and terming along when it´s in a language I don´t even like.

Like in that ancient one, whichs terminology of objects -either yet unknown hundreds of years ago or lost from own vocabulary- vastly consists of words lent from European source. Almost always distorted ("emperatur" for emperor, "oreanus" for ocean, "jean" for jeans, and as the very latest vegetable import from 6 years or so ago "buru-ukli" for broccoli, etc.) or even misassigned ("jazz" for drums, "serum" for infusion, "flash" for USB sticks, etc.)

Foreign terms put into right order, in conjunction with a messed up syntax and a bunch of wrong prepositions often times yield funny effects with people not yet used to yours truly talking. You can literally see cubes dropping from shelves in the heads, to then one by one be puzzled back up into place. Especially, as foreigners very rarely occure, so that folks being quite inflexible in semantic respect.

Yet, the archaic "judge" insisting on me having written a certain disadvantageous discription, while me actually being illiterate with Arabic scripture: "You can´t fool me. I know that you have written this, and your language skills are better than mine".

Accordingly, much of perception appears to be a matter of intention.

"Cho cho" sounds so familiar to me. Think it came about in one of the Beatles songs.

Before Porsche in the mid nineties promissed to engage me for the next car naming (which they never did, and ended up with "Cayenne") I remember the local difficulties that can lead to renaming for certain language spheres in order to avoid similarities to cursing or scatology.
And sometimes just ordinary connotations. For instance when the VW Polo is being renamed for a market, because of there "polo" meaning cooked rice.

In Albany the English teacher was trying to teach us that automobiles would be pronounced "cath", for there "car" relating to the male genitalia. And she wouldn´t appreciate my smart-alecky objections at all.

Over here folks name a certain country "Casta Rica", for to avoid rude expression for the vulva. Me must be the only blunt guy who names it the way it should.
