John Walsh was kind enough to supply us transcriptions for a beautiful Solea falseta he wrote and I think it's time we get a challenge going! My thought is, we basically do our best to just play his falseta, best we can. Any BPM you want, keep in mind playing clean and slow is obviously better than playing fast and sloppy. You can play a couple of compas before and after of rhythm strumming if you like but it's not required. I'm going to say no clicks or rhythms for this and here's my reasons. One, It's solea, it doesn't NEED it. Two, not everyone can record well and if you've spent any time in the swap shop you can see many people end up recording the clicks louder than the guitar. I'm likely just as guilty as anyone else. I think also, maybe you can modify slightly some of the rasgueados if you need to but it's got to be a reasonable reproduction of what we've been given. I'm happy to organize, although since I want to participate I just wont do any judging.
Please share your thoughts and whether or not you'd be willing to participate.

Lenny, I want you to be able to judge too.
I can suggest a method I used on a challenge I organized on another forum. I have a cloud based service that allows this and I can provide it to the challenge.
Here's what I did:
- Participants had to prepare a mp3 file (at least 192kbps please!) and name it according to a mix that was "a guitar brand" + "household electronic device brand". That would give something like "Fender Singer.mp3", "Gibson Bosch.mp3", etc.
- Somewhere before the deadline, a link would be supplied. All you had to do was drag & drop your mp3 to that screen before the deadline (the link can be set to expire at a programmed time). Done.
I could provide this and give you the final download link after the deadline. Another option would be for you to add that link to your first post and everyone could download or stream directly from there.

Prizes people! You can't beat it! You'll learn something AND you may have a souvenir of the time you spanked a group of other guitar players! What guitar player doesn't want that?????
Rui mentioned to me in PM adding an element of creativity to this. I'm not opposed but I want it to MAINLY be a technical challenge. "Can you play this well and with proper feel.". My first thought on this would be maybe require a couple of compas before the falseta of rhythm strumming, if you can do something to really compliment and launch the falseta than more points but I'm open to more suggestions....
Ahhhh nice idea on the upload method Rui! I like it, we can discuss the logistics of it as we get closer but that sounds like the way to go....

I think we need AT LEAST 7-10 entries......
Don't forget to mention the prizes.
Maybe we could get some string brand to help us out.. D'Addario is the only brand that comes to mind right now but maybe there are other representatives that look around the forum and might stumble upon this.

We need code name categories too..... Movie villains? Have we done that?
How about a mix? Remember that if we go with my entry method no one will be checking the entries... and we don't want repeats.
Spanish Female name + Movie Villain's surname ... what do you think?
So... let's go straight with the bread, right?
Regarding ratings... one value only descending from order of preference or 2 separate values (for Technique (how close it is) and Aire (personal touch))? Small comment would be nice too...

Sounds good to me!

I like that, I see technique more as "sound quality of the notes" (IE muffled/missed/weak) and Aire as feel & rhythm/compas.....que no?
RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Chal... (in reply to Leñador)
Maybe a 1-10 rating no matter how many entries and we total the two like this.
Contestant: Filamona Drago Technique: 3 Aire: 2 Total score: 5 Comments: Your name is ugly and you have horrible compas. Stop nose breathing into the microphone. (Obviously we'll be nicer in real life...)
Just trying to keep it simple as possible.....

Anyway, I'm down and will try not to disappoint. What's the timeframe here?
Great! I'll put you down. Nothing official yet but I'm thinkin 2 months is plenty......
RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Chal... (in reply to Leñador)
We could start with one month and then add weeks if most of us feel it's not enough. This way we avoid making it two months and having people forgetting about it during the first month.

For the Official Thread, a few hints:
Your first post (Lenny) has all the rules. It should also state the following:
A participant is automatically signed up by adding ONE and ONLY ONE post to that thread. Just write your name, foro nickname, doesn't matter. This post will be used in the future for you to edit it two times AFTER the submission deadline:
1 - To place your votes (including in yourself..we don't know who you are)
2 - To disclose your own alias with total sum and remove the self voting AFTER the votes are closed.
eg.
Filomena Drago - 3 + 2 = 5 - You still have a long way before you master deep throat.
Filomena Drago - 125 - It's me!
edit:
Dates needed:
- mp3 submission period (from 29th to 31st maybe?) - votes (1st to 5th of June?) - show your faces! (if you don't do this, you're out) - (6th to 8th?)

Wow Don awesome!!! It's REALLY appreciated! C'mon peoples lets get a few more entries here!
In the video John is playing this super fast, maybe near 130bpm. I've slowed it down to about 80bpm and it's still sounds really nice. I can picture entries coming in as slow as 70bpm still being completely valid and if played well even taking the prize....
RE: !!!John Walsh Solea Falseta Chal... (in reply to Leñador)
In my opinion we should make clear what is to be voted as Technique and what is Aire.
Technique would be more towards the "are all the pitches in there and do they sound cleanly?" but without caring so much for the rhythm. If you miss notes or make some passages blurred, you'll lose points.
As opposed to that, Aire would be "compas, expressiveness, etc" and your personal touch wouldn't be seen as "a failure". If you do a different rasgueo or accent, you wouldn't lose points (might even win them) but if you lose compas or get your r.h. fingers trapped between the strings, that would cost you some.
