Rafael Riqueni has performed with great success in the Flamenco Bienal and there are rumours of a new album this year, this would be his first album since 1996.
You're so right, svilian! Thanks for the information. And there will be a new album!
Here is an excerpt from an interview with him (Oct. 7th) in ABC: http://sevilla.abc.es/cultura/musica/20140930/sevi-entrevista-rafael-riqueni-201409301137.html (translation by me) How are you, maestro? "I am enjoying very good health and good stability with my bipolar disorder. With the help of my doctor, XX, I am feeling fantastic. Phenomenal." ...And artistically? "Artistically-with great excitement, playing many hours. I think what makes me happy is pleasing the audience as well as enjoying what I'm playing." Are you continuing to enjoy yourself? Yes, I'm trying to do that. I try to forget about technique and focus more on expression, even though the guitar has such a technical aspect to it, it's musical expression that is the peak of inspiration. That is the most important thing." .......... "El nuevo disco es un paseo por todos los rincones del Parque descritos con la guitarra" (The new CD is a stroll past all the corners of Maria Luisa Park as told by the guitar).
Thank you svillian for the info - hopefully some footage may appear from the bienal Appreciate the translation Don - also good to hear a speak out on the disorder, great to know the support is there as it is often lacking with Bi Polar conditions - many more years of music to come hopefully
Such a great player and composer - one of a kind Looking forward to the release
Just reading up a bit online it is stated several times he had collaborated with Anouar Brahem ( a favourite musician ) Anyone aware of any recording or witnessed this collaboration ?
i had seen the website, and also a video from a bodega of seemingly all new stuff (not on youtube, and a can't find or remember where now...), but didn't know about album - pls update if you find out more.
good for him to speak out about personal stuff, after so many rumours and stories about him. Hope he can keep working, look forward to hearing it if he puts out a new album.
should have thought "phenomenal" would be more appropriate
Not sure about that It probably was but If no one here actually witnessed it or no one recorded it - it seems to remain in the world of transitory undocumented performances - like Hendrix and miles Davis etc Hopefully someone out there saw this - until then we can only imagine - figure most musical performances are ephemeral , sometimes we get lucky and someone presses record or writes a review - till then we are pretty short on descriptive words
I´d really love to see the Riqueni-Brahem recording But it´s true that many amazing musical meetings are lost forever Has anyone EVER heard the Pepe Habichuela-Don Cherry meeting? You can read about it on every Pepe´s bio
Have you guys check the video? It´s not that video with Canales shot with a mobile phone. It´s a pro shot of Riqueni together with Manolo Franco and Paco Jarana playing "Amarguras". I am surprised no one is saying anything about it, the song is great
Best you get yourself the album......awesomeness, will blow ones testicles off and some
Best

I was listening to the Youtube clip on my good speakers, saying to myself, "Why don't I own this album?" Amazon only had it at an outrageous price, but I ordered anyhow. Then on the Youtube clip the orchestra came galumphing in like a herd of dancing elephants.
Thanks, just listened it through(on youtube though, don't even know where I can buy the album) and even when it was great I don't think it's better than Riqueni's other albums, every album has it's own magic
