Thats sweet. Are they Scottish? Octave fiddling isnt done much in Ireland exept in Donegal which is heavily influenced by Scottish fiddling.

Yeah Scottish for sure, they were in a band called Silly Wizard.

Phil, the accordian player, is quite a celebrity in Scotland. I saw him a few years ago with my dad and he let us buy him a whisky which he scoffed at the bar before the show. He played some real barnstormers.

That's the direction Vicente Amigo's music is taking, isn't it?
I love Celtic music.... even this theme, which is perfect when paired with Lagavulin.

Incidentally, that is one theme I wish I had conceived; I am genuinely envious of its composer, James Horner.

Well I am glad you guys enjoyed it.

I even hear a celtic influence in the intro to Travalgar, JG. But for all I know that may have been inspired by Mark Knopfler more than Galicia.

I cycled into the town of Hecho in Navarra some fourteen years ago and found bizarrely that there was a piping competition going on. The only thing which would have made me feel more at home would have been some much wished for rain.

It is very surprising to me that there are people who love music but don't find the points of contact between styles interesting.

Check out this wiki page for the tune which is quoted by Rafael Cortes in Pinks thread (and identified by Estevan). It has certainly gotten around.

Fiddle and guitar.

Kind of hard to find fiddle and guitar where the guitar does just what I want it to.

The video below has some with things I like. I like the walking chord lines taken from piano and accordian. Over all the performance is a little flat for me, not sure quite why but I think that maybe he never lets the guitar drive him so the guitarist always backs off leaving the listener a little frustrated and bored.

Well, the guitar, piano etc. have some specific roles in Trad music, just like in when you play with singers in flamenco. You are not supposed to be all over the place.

What do you think of this guitarist:

Sounds a lot like John Doyle to me. John does a bit more palm muting which makes things a bit more crisp. I think the open sting drones are a bit too much when allowed to ring so much.

The taste is very good though and there is a lot more listening going on than in the vid I posted.

I would have liked to find a video where the guitarist (Arty McGlynn plays with some who play a slower. That gives some more space to work.
Cathal Hayden, the fiddler always play to fast. I actually find that the music looses dynamics and becomes boring.
Trad Irish and Trad Scottish is sometimes a competition on who can play fastest and its a shame. (Bulerias is sometimes like that as well.)

Well, they are playing reels…

Try Martin Hayes’s first album for some relief. Incidentally, the guitarist on that (Randal Bayes) is magnificent.

Yes, but they are some 20% above dance speed. To me it gets flat when its that fast.

I agree that Martin Hayes first album is really good. I prefer it over the newer ones. (The second is pretty good as well) I also prefer the guitarist from the first album over the dork he´s playing with now. Just my taste. Martin Hayes is a fantastic performer. He goes really deep. Especially alone of stage right in front of you. He tried my fiddle last year and really liked it. This you can always feel and hear. They dont have to tell you using words.
