20/2 around midnight: hand dissectio...

A new 2-part program about the anatomy of the human hand and foot is screened at BBC 4 starting this week. The first episode focusing on the hand is (re)broadcasted tonight (20/2) around midnight. Be warned the main course is a dissection of a real human arm/hand showing us from the inside what happens if we pull tendons in stead of strings.

For years the only operations i was not able/willing to view were those involving the hand. An open leg, chest or brain, no problem... but watching a hand operation on television to me was the ultimate torture (i'm not even sure i'm willing/able to watch them at precent day). Fortunately the hand/arm being dissected in above program belongs to a dead person. Having an interest (and a modest degree) in animal anatomy/histology myself that's more my cup of tea. They mainly focus on the muscle/tendon wiring (bigger muscles), show a couple of handy people and briefly mention/demonstrate the ability of the human body to specialize it's biology in order to support specific tasks like climbing.
