Who is Danny Thompson?

I will admit I do not have a vast Flamenco music collection or am I by any stretch of the imgination a Flamenco 'expert' but this name has appeared on several cd's in my collection! Doesn't sound very Flamenco to me. Many of the non Spanish Flamenco people I know or know of re-invent themselves as a Juan or a Paco or some other name for pro reasons so Danny stands out. Does anyone know Danny?

Is it possible it could be British bass player Danny Thompson?
He started off with British Folk bands in the '60s, was much sought-after and has since appeared on hundreds of albums from Folk to Jazz to Ethnic.
The guy never seems to be short of work!

The flamenco connection is the work Danny Thompson did with Ketama and Toumani Diabate under the name of Songhai during the 1990s. They produced two CDs and also did some live performances. The first CD in particular is full of good tunes. Songhai also appeared in a BBC Rhythms of the World documentary during which Danny was interviewed talking about the benefits of working with musicians from such diverse musical backgrounds as Africa, Spain and...Battersea.
