Another useless thread indeed
Why should there be a 'best'... there are quite a few really interesting musicians with amazing technique and great aire in the States... and in Canada too of course!

Ah, no. I just met Jason in September. He hired me based on word of mouth and youtube video's I guess. Perhaps you are confused because Jason DID study under Pedro Cortes a long time ago. Even still, both Pedro and Chusco would agree with me that Jason is on a whole different level. I have not yet met another american like him.

Hey Rumbaking, I've been to Spain a couple of times. It was only for a vacation though. I was in Madrid and Andalucia. I bought a guitar in Granada. The Luthier is Antonio Morales. Maybe someone on the foro knows of him? I'm not sure if he is still around. It was a nice blanca with pegheads. I wish I still was playing it but I had to sell it unfortunately.

Antonio Morales on Cuesta Gomerez... The famous guitar builder who never made one guitar in his life. Very Spanish.

Back on topic.

I dont know so many American guitarists. I think a lot are very good, Jason is great. But I´m more Jondo. So my vote goes to Ricardo. He sounds like he´s from here. It just sounds right.

RE: Best American Flamenco guitarist? (in reply to avimuno

They are all great players and they all have different aire. I know David and Jason pretty well and they are both treasures, they play at opposite ends of the spectrum too. Each has his special aire. Both of them a very flamenco characters too.

I would say that nobody is the best, they are all different. But having said that.....I would also sat that David and Jason are two of the most unusual and natural musicians I've ever met in any musical genre. If Jason is like John Coltrane or Wayne Shorter, then David is like Bill Evans. They are in that category of good.

But I think everyone mentioned has contributed something great and I'm glad flamenco has come to the State in such great players.

Jason and David also make good tortilla, but if I told you which is better it would start a blood feud.

I think it is sort of tough to say who is best or whatever when there are these great players but they are very very different..

Ive not heard so many American players though, but I do know about Ricardo and Jason.

And comparing them is so very hard.. I like what Anders said about Ricardo and I agree, And on the other hand is Jason who has made something very different.

I think it is so hard to say anyone is better because they sound and play like they want to sound like, they want to create different things....

But good god I am amazed by them both!

But don't real Flamencos make tortilla from eggs and potato? I seem to remember flamenco not originating in Mexico.

Wish we could get proper masa over here, in any colour. We can only get the dried Maseca crap and it's just not the same.

We shouldn't be deciding between Ricardo and Jason, we should be thankful that we have BOTH of them! And there are other wonderful guitarists out there too... The more the merrier!

Then there’s that Grisha guy. He’s OK…if he could just get his picado speed up he’d be a contender.

Let us not compare lentils to tortilla, let us listen to them.

Jason loves to tell the story about how he tried to take a lesson with Chusco when he was younger. Chusco was busy making lentils and showed Jason how to make lentils and Chusco said this is how you play the guitar.

They all make lentils or tortilla with their own flavor. I would like to have all the flamenco guitarists mentioned together making gazpacho, lentils and tortillas. There is also Keni Parker, he makes pretty good potaje por buleria.

Pedro Cortes is another great guitarist.

Maybe for another thread, but how about the greatest non Spanish player(s) regardless of country? My favorite-Juan Carmona.
