"We should create a special page with all this info to make a bigger impact so people can read about his important contribution to flamenco"
I don't know the logistics or even how the collection was organized for the dancer Andrés. If there is a way to post pictures and information, in the public area as well, I'll flesh out what I already wrote about Parrilla and hunt down images.
(For those who did not read the beginning of this conversation, I'm proposing the forum collect donations for legendary guitarist Manuel Parrilla who suffered a devastating stroke last November and is incapacitated. This was already done at the Flamenco Teacher forum and a representative of that group came to Jerez to hand over the money in person. Having visited Manuel I can tell you all there is a very great need).

Quite simple, anyone who wishes to donate, and it would be great if everyone here contributed , can send money by going to www.paypal.com and clicking on 'send money', you need a credit card for this but your credit card details are never made public. More info can be found on the paypal site under HELP.
You will need my email address
kate@andalamusica.com
and to state the amount and currency ( euros are best) and the name " PARRILLA APPEAL" and I will make sure every cent gets to him. If you prefer to send an international money order or a cheque or cash ( again Euros is best) send me an email and I'll let you know my address.
What we did for Andrés was fantastic, it made a difference to a young dancer, but this is even more crucial. So please give generously.
Perhaps this should go in Public Discussion or can guests now access all areas? I know many people may have already donated through flamenco teacher in which case perhaps they would like to do so again so our forum can also play a part. Also can we have a banner on the home page and what about an incentive. I could donate some CDs or books on flamenco for anyone who gives over €100 or we could have a draw of all the donors.
Estela, please take into account that many here are also members of flamenco-teacher
Of course. I just want to certify Parrilla's need for help now so that anyone who would like to pitch in may do so. You can be sure the final amount collected, no matter how much it is, will be a great help put to appropriate use for Parrilla's well-being.
Anyone who would like to know more about Parrilla, his career or anything else, I'll try to provide the necessary information. Two years ago he accompanied Paquera on her first trip to Japan and an excellent documentary was made of the trip. No one ever dreamt those two dynamic artists would be stopped in their tracks just a year later...
Estela is talking about my effort to collect donations on my website/forum and deliver it to Parilla.
If people on this forum can do the same it would be great. For decades we have relied on this (and other) great guitarists for showing us the path, now it's our time to show our appreciation.
Just a brief note about my visit: Parilla is in real bad shape. There is no hope for him to get back into guitar playing, as it appeared. His family is devestated. The people in Spain/Jerez are doing their part, but we should also do ours as the international community.
My effort was relatively successful. I was hoping to collect more than what we did. Hopefully the efforts on foroflamenco will be successful too.

Has nothing come of this? What needs to be done to move it along? Kate's offer to donate CDs as prizes was great, but there doesn't seem to be any follow-up. Have instructions been posted on how to contribute?
Soon it will be Christmas...among other things Parrilla has almost single-handedly rescued the tradition of Jerez villancicos from extinction.
Sadly the only contributions we have so far are from me and Simon. And yes I believe everyone knows how to contribute via paypal or cash in an envelope. And yes I'll donate some flamenco CDs ( not only artists from Granada like Emilio Maya, Taller de Compás ( now very rare) but various others , some still in the wrappers and I just noticed a Rafael Riquini in the pile) as a lottery prize for donors and throw in my Don Pohren book on Paco de Lucía.
So please chicos and chicas lets get a nice Christmas bonus for Parilla.
Kate, perhaps if you describe how the lottery might work and repost the PayPal details....
I can't emphasize strongly enough how needy this man is. Local authorities ought to be doing more for him but they aren't...he gets a very small monthly stipend that doesn't come close to covering his special needs.
There are very few of his breed left... Only last year he was globetrotting and performing, fit and energetic, and now he's a lump on a couch just barely keeping his mental and physical pain under control. He is totally lucid.
