Last night, after the corrida, I went to a great open air rock concert of the dinosaurs Ten Years After. Alvin Lee has gone but the others are original. The new guitarist is Joe Gooch. Sensational. Todo Cádiz de pie, clapping. A great performance.
Sorry Simon, this post was "inspired" by your post about the Paco concert: I have seen several of these and now you would have to pay me to see another: I prefer flamenco, or rock. Viva la Fender Stratocaster!!
I hear what you're saying Sean. I'm not a rock fan by any means...but I must admit I always come away feeling spiritually lifted after hearing any good music that's played with passion and soul. I'm still hearing echos from Gerardo's concert in Dundee! I was totally impressed at his ability to make a really interesting performance for the Classical players, the (very few) Flamenco players and the folk who had no idea about anything of Flamenco, and of course, the non-players who just came along to hear some good music. That's what being a Musician is all about IMO... Bringing a memorable experience to folk.
It seems to me that Ten Years After without Alvin Lee is like the Stones without Jagger AND Richards. He was the singer, guitarist, and songwriter. BTW, a couple of years ago I heard that Alvin Lee was living in Spain and studying Flamenco guitar. Can anybody verify this? I just found that to be interesting.
ORIGINAL: Phil BTW, a couple of years ago I heard that Alvin Lee was living in Spain and studying Flamenco guitar. Can anybody verify this? I just found that to be interesting.
