Quick 4 finger ras question

My 4-finger x-a-m-i (all down) ras seems to have grown an i upstroke at the end i.e. x-a-m-i(d)-i(u).

Have I picked up a bad habit?

EAMII (the five stoke ras) is a useful technique and can be used to build a continuous ras that many find easier than a continous four stroke (EAMI).

It would be a problem if you are saying that you cannot do the four stroke ras without the end upstroke, because that would imply that you've lost control somehow, and also you sometimes need that powerful four stroke - Da-da-da-DAH!

Simon,
As long as the rasgueado fits what your trying to do and doesn't overrun etc then it's ok.
I regularly use x-a-m-i-i also x-a-m-i-i-i

Sometimes I start with an upstroke with the i before the x depending on the sound I want.

There is no requirement for each rasgueado stroke to be a subdivision of the beats of the rhythm.

You can fit 5 strokes into 2 beats if you want.

As long as it sounds OK.

cheers

Ron

What happened is Simon's been playing Soleares too much!

First there was "Bulerias" Chuck, now there's "Solea" Simon.

Hi Simon,
Not at all, that's good practice for use in Buleria.
Cheers
Jim.

I think you may be right, just wish I could get the hang of 5 strokes in the one beat.

Thanks for all your replies, I was having trouble with Pena's notation, now I see he does expect a 5 stroke with an i upstroke at the end. But I see have do have a little trouble with the 4 stroke x-a-m-i as this semi-automatic i-up keeps creeping in when I don't want it. have to work on it.
