Finally - an affordable way to see Paco! Probably everybody in the Bay Area flamenco scene knows this already, but just in case: Feb 9 Caminos Flamencos Listening Party Thursday, February 9, 7:00pm at YBCA Forum Jason McGuire Three Pillars of Jazz Flamenco Series: SFJAZZ Members Only Three Pillars of Jazz Flamenco Series: Flamenco Sketches Caminos Flamencos Listening Party The evolution of flamenco and jazz can be traced back to the early 1960s as noted artists began to explore the rich harmony of jazz, forging new territory as jazz flamenco (as it is known in Spain). Among the royalty of the genre sits Paco de Lucía, extraordinary guitarist and innovator whose experimentation led him to Middle Eastern, Cuban and Afro-Peruvian textures, and whose collaboration with fellow guitar icons John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola put him in the international spotlight; guitarist Vicente Amigo, whose cross-pollination with rock, funk and Brazilian music brought him to unusual collaborations with everyone from Bob Dylan to João Bosco; and pianist Chano Domínguez, whose exquisite blending of flamenco with a Monk-infused compositional approach opened eyes and ears to new possibilities. We will celebrate the enormous contributions of these three stellar artists during their 2012 SFJAZZ Spring Season performances. In this exclusive Listening Party, SFJAZZ Director of Education Rebeca Mauleón sits down with guitarist Jason McGuire – musical director of the Emmy Award-winning flamenco ensemble Caminos Flamencos – to discuss the legacy of these three pillars of Spain's jazz flamenco scene and demonstrate the transformation of an art form already steeped in centuries of tradition and innovation. MARCH 25: Vicente Amigo APRIL 27: Paco de Lucia Got my tix!! :)
