The most TV Networks and newspapers here in Greece are on crisis. Τhere are 40% reductions to the salaries and noone is sure what is going to happen. If someone refuses to sign the new contract of shame, automatically gets fired.
Here in Greece the whole situation is worse than any european country. Every two days there is a strike and the salaries are going down every single moment.
But we all Greeks have courage and stubbornness to change all this and feel free again!
Thanks for the update, gounaro. I heard that different groups were clashing in the streets last month. Greek bond yields were around 75% a few months ago. This was an indication of imminent financial collapse. It was just a matter of time before more people started to feel the effects. As bad as it is over there people are still retiring at age 52 in Greece. When will these retirees have to go back to work?
I hope the situation gets sorted out, having no jobs makes the situation so hard, people cant rent their homes, young people cant get started out in life...

please excuse my ignorance, just wanna try and understand why has it effected Greece so much worst than everyone else ...i have asked a few people and i got a few answers ...some of which seemed a little ignorant and simplistic

The main concern is that the Greek State (not the Greek People) is very wealthy in terms of land, buildings, infrastructure, natural resources (lignitis, gold, oil etc). The debt is created by corrupted politicians through deliberate irrational management of resources (eg. a public company owning 30 buildings decides not to use them for offices, and instead rents private owned buildings for irrationaly big rents). What happens in Greece now is what happened to USSR after the fall of communism, at a smaller scale of course. The state's property is large and is at stake.
Also, considering the natural resources. As long as i can remember myself I was hearing that Greece has oil as a conspiracy theory. You would hear it quite often, but it was considered by most of us something like the Loch-ness monster. If you were serious you just did not believe it. Then, some 2-3 weeks ago the resigning prime minister stated that the only way for Greece to go out of the crisis is to exploit the OIL under Crete! Suddently the "santa clause" seems like a real person!
A thing also to be explained at this point is that Greeks are very hard workers. I have worked with Italians, French, Germans and their work hours are much less than ours. All people i know here work 10-14hours daily, most times including Saturdays. Retiring at 50 years has happened to very few people, and for these people the original wage was hardly over 1000euro/month at 30 years of service!
Anyway, that is to say this country has suffered alot through the centuries, but we will certainly get out of this.
We have also been attacked by statements like "modern greeks are not descendants of ancient Greece". My only answer to that is that when i go to the British Museum i can read the rossetta stone.
i have heard that the Greek "system" not the people is quite corrupt...
i had heard something that with the right connections anything can be avoided including taxes etc...
i didn't know if it was bull or not, that's why i didn't mention it...but if it is true ...wow

i don't want anyone to be offended by this...its generalization and i am referring more to the country i know, romania...it was like that there after communism failed ( like in Russia).....
the mentality its all screwed up..."Me first" get whatever i can out of it..."as long as me and my family is ok" fu*k the community or the greater good.. They never learn that those that walk last in line are just as important as those that walk first...and whatever happens to the last affects everyone
but this is more common to a country that has had a transition from communism or a dictatorship, somewhere where people have had nothing and now decided that they want everything (overnight).....its unusual that it happened in Grece ...to my knowledge you have been a democratic country with a good standard of living for a long time..
Anyway you will be ok, will come out of it somehow...dont know how and dont know how long but you will find a way..

It doesn't help that the media in other countries tell lies about the situation either. I heard a reporter on the BBC world service call Greek people lazy. He made out that the main problem is that Greek people sit under olive trees by the beach, drinking Ouzo all day. Its the same is Spain and Portugal. Mediterranean cultures do know how to have fun but most business owners still work until very late compared to say the U.K or the U.S. Its not a problem with the workforce or even the governments. Its the system of fiat banking that allowed high inflation and rampant speculation in these countries to accumulate so much debt that the governments cant pay back the loans to the central banks.
