Yup, this is the other part to the grand equation - the X factor, where you can do your damnedest, and end up with something ok, but not maybe how you would like it - and I think visa versa too?

But we are getting somewhere ......I think. I was going to say, that at some point armed with a few theories that we all have to dive in and get messy to progress. Good stuff guys.

My brother, a distinguished physician, says the same thing about the practice of medicine.

One of the most scientific guitar makers i know of says lutherie is still an art, not a science.

If you read the books by Trevor Gore. he proposes a couple of guidelines to avoid wolf notes,improve tuning accuracy, and improve performance.

-Don't locate the guitar"s resonant frequencies on a scale note, but aim for midway between

-Don't stack the top resonance exactly an octave above the air resonance.

-Aim to have the coupled back frequency(measured by reading it's signature when tapping the top) 3 semitones above the top
