Manuel Condal

Anybody has ever heard of Manuel Condal?

I bought a signed Manuel Condal flamenco model FA60 in 1979 for about 70 euros. After 26 years, I got cracks on the back. I recently bought a Rafael Romero 120 negra, the basses are definitely clearer, although the first string sounds less bright (as it's new probably) than the Condal.

Now, the Condal's label says "Constructor de guitarras de Conciertos y Flamenco, Barcelona 15, Espana". I went to Barcelona over 20 years ago and nobody had heard of him. Somebody told me that the guitar might have been made in the Philippines and signed by the music shop owner!

The top Condal flamenco model at the time was FA100, for over a hundred euros, even with inflation, it would be nice to find another one like that. I would appreciate any illumination especially from aficionados from Asia.

Hi Frhout,
I went to his shop in Barcelona in 1972 and met him. I also used to own one of his guitars.
He was wearing a brown dustcoat and he was covered in woodshavings and was a bit annoyed at being disturbed.
The guitar was nothing special....but...yeah...the guy really did exist!

Thanks for your reply. So Manuel Condal did exist. What was said about the guitar being made in the Philippines is not true then. I suppose he must have died and with no apprentices to carry on his work. It's a shame as his FA100 model and the CA120 classical were quite nice back then.
