Up till now, i've never had a need to amplify my guitar. I generally only play for myself or my family in a quiet setting. However, my friend recently asked me to perform a few songs at church during her wedding ceremony this coming February. This brings me to the next dilemma, I know absolutely nothing about amplification.
Reading through previous threads on this topic, I came out more confused by all the different opinions. Perhaps some of you can help narrow down my focus. I have a $1500 budget for any kind of set up. I don't want a cheap setup that I'll have to replace later down the line. I prefer the most natural sound. Please advise on mics, amps, and stands you recommend.
I'm currently checking out the shure sm57 and sm58. Tried out 3 different acoustic amps at guitar center and they were all a POS.
Depending on venue size, some companies also make 8 inch speaker enclosures, but I would go with a 10 inch powered speaker unless you want a 12 inch speaker.
FBT and EV also have good quality powered units, with the FBT Maxx 2a being my favorite.
I run a K & K Trinity system, but for a non-invasive solution, the K & K Meridian mic/preamp might work well for you:
The RCF speaker and Meridian/Bartlett mic, plus good cables(go to Redco audio to have some Mogami cables built) would be well-below your budget if you comparison shop for prices.

The LR BAGGS Acoustic AMP sounds like a decent amp. I'm thinking what the hell, you only live once, may as well go for the good stuff. The Bartlett Mic is also one of my top choices for microphones.
I have two 12 inch BOSE speakers lying around at home from an old karaoke set. Wonder if I can hook that up to the LR BAGGS for increase amplification. Or do I have to go through a PA system?

unless you are looking to get yourself an amp, i would check with the church where you are going to play. I have played at alot of churches and all of them have had excellent house p/a systems. They most likely would be able to mic your guitar through their system. If not I agree that a roland amp is a great choice.I have used one for years, very versitile and easy to transport. A 90W amp will cover alot of venues unless your in a large cathedral. The sure sm57 mic is an industry standard for instrument mics. I would avoid condenser mics for live performance because they are more prone to feed back. hope this helps.

I tried lots of different gear, this combo worked best for me: AMP: USED AER COMPACT 60 - $850 MIC: USED SHURE SM81 - $200 for solo, USED SHURE SM57 - $50 in band STAND: ANY MIC STAND - $30

I use a powered speaker, the EV zxa1. it's like 800 watts and only 19 pounds.
for gigs where i need to mic several people, i use it with a mixer. when i need to mic only myself, i leave my big heavy mixer at home and use guitar pedals to eq and add reverb.
i use the bartlett guitar mic. less stuff to carry, consistent sound, less to worry about.
