After 2 years of only playing exercises I am starting to learn my first piece of music (apart from Spanish Romance!). It's VA's Callejon de Luna. And I've got a question about his right hand technique. He does several sections of arpeggios and I've read on this and other forums that he does these apoyando. So I do the same, no big problem there. But I have a question about the arpeggio bit he does that starts maybe about a minute or so before the tremolo section. Now if he is doing these apoyando, then his palm is flat and there is no way he can be doing rest stroke with the thumb. So I am guessing that for this section the thumb strokes are all free stroke. Does anyone have a video of VA playing this to check out his right hand?
Hi hamia! Yes when he plays the arpegio as a picado he plays freestroke with the thumb. There is a DVD out of Vicente. Its really great, and you can see that he plays the arpegio very often as a picado. The DVD is not so expensive. When you like his music you wont miss your money. There is a video in bad quality of the tangos of vicentes new CD on www.flamenco-world.com Some month ago I searched in the net and found a video of him playing another piece. When I refind it Ill tell you.
Thanks for confirming that. There are a couple of vids on flamenco world (there is even a short version of Callejon) but the quality is so bad I couldn't make out what his thumb was doing.
You're right I need to get his DVD - maybe I'll order it today! Hope it's got some close ups of his right hand. (There's nothing worse than when the camera moves away from the guitar at crucial points - why can't they just point the camera at the guitar and leave it alone!)
Haha...^^ yes I allways think that, too. A friend gave me a Paco concert of end2004. He played with Nino Josele, La Tana, and some more.. But the camera pointed on the head, on the drums, the whole group, ... but not long on the hands... how frustraiting.^^ In the vicente DVD are many cloth ups on his hands. And if you wanna see perfect technik of an other player, the encuentro DVD of Gerardo Nunez is very good.
Nonsense D, I feel humbled by the fact that you can write in English and I can't do the same in German. Anyway if you had a lisp then you might say cloth instead of close... You thilly, thauthage you.. Anyway Andalucians always speak with a lisp!
