Anyone in Croatia, Flamenco concert ...
Do we have any members in Croatia ? Just wondering as I've been asked to put a show together for the 13 August in Zagreb. Originally they wanted Emilio Maya with Ana Calí but as they are both at the Berlin Flamenco Festival that night I've managed to get Rafa Habichuela on guitar, La Repompa ( dancer who set the stage alight in UK with Emilio Maya earlier this year) El Moreno ( also a Habichuela who toured with Joaquin Cortes, dancer/Percussionist) with Jaime 'El Parrón' singing. So its flamenco puro y muy Gitano. Its not confirmed yet, final contracts are always the last of the arrangements to be made, but would love to hear if ayone could make it. I cant go, nor can I go to Berlin which is a shame, but am sending harold as sound man/road manager.

My mother is from Pula. I used to go there every summer when I was a child. I was there last summer visiting my grand parents. I don't speak much Croatian but I do speak Italian (Istra used to be under the Italians prior to WWII).
Dovidenja Bog
P.S. I hope all goes well with the flamenco concert.

I'll post details here on the forum as soon as it is confirmed. Or if not then I'll let you know who does get the flamenco gig. The date is the 13th August in Zagreb but dont know the venue or times yet.

This is a wonderful news.I hope you will manage to do this. I live in Zagreb and flamenco shows are something that I can only hope to see, so I will certainly go. The only show in the past few years was the concert of Jose Antonio Rodriguez in 2003 and it was great. The war ruin everything in my country and we still trying to tell people around the world that the war is gone long a go (in 1995 the war ended),so I think that this could be one of the reasons why flamenco is something foreign in my country and little number of people know anything about flamenco. Well, I can dream that it will be better.

Hola Davor,
That's great news, you will gave to post a review. One of the reason I love this forum is that we are spread far and wide. I think there will be a flamenco concert in Zagerb even if my guys don't get the gig. I'm sure the promoter is asking round everyone for availability and prices. Knowing the budget he's working with you wont get Nuñez, Paco or Vicente but am sure he will choose something good and authentic. Hopefully my lot :) Rafa Habichuela and Jaime ' El Parrón' , with El Moreno on percussion and dance and also La Repompa ( the dancer I took to UK with Emilio Maya) and one more dancer.
Croatia is simply beautiful and I would love to come visit one day but have to stay in Granada as I have summer guests. Still if our group from Granada goes you'll have to say hello to Harold, my partner and the sound engineer/record producer.

I hope that your group will make it to Zagreb. It's a very nice place, and I know that Davor (and Andrej) would love to have some inspiration coming from outside.
And to Davor, bring some friends. This group is very good. Not big famous names, but very authentical and high quality flamenco. Amongst the best you'll find here in Granada.

Hola Kate and Anders As I sad before we don't have many opportunity to see authentic flamenco show, so for some of us who love flamenco I hope that something good will come up.I know that I won't see Paco or Gerardo or..., but I have their CD-s to remind me of them. I must say that I envy you all who have the privilage to see all that big names, not because their name, yet because their outstanding performance. Still I hope to see authentic flamenco in my town.

Živijo!
Paco in Gerardo sta igrala v Ljubljani.

I'm just confirming details of this years festival in Croatia and came across this thread from last year.
Last year 2005 we the dancer from Granada went with her group, sadly not Emilio as he was working with Mario Maya. The concert was not in Zagreb as I had thought when I posted originally but in Rovinj by the sea. Hereis the festivals website and photos from the concert http://www.valkulture.com/2005/ana_cali.asp
This year the date is 10th August again in the plaza in Rovinj and it will be the Granada dancer Fuensanta La Moneta with her group. Entrance is free. If anyone goes along let me know.
