Preamp holes are like herpes, they are for life.
Might as well put the preamp back and use it IMO
Nothing will disguise what the hole was when it's in that location

Wow! Your avatar is an excellent match for this post!!

This is like a TV show about people buying old houses for flipping and then discovering just how much more there is as they start tearing out the walls. Bummer...

Can you share the seller's name, if not can you PM it to me?

I was watching this auction on ebay, and I'm really glad to see that you saved it and that you're putting such great effort into restoring it. Best of luck with it - keep us updated!

RE: Restoring a cracked blanca (in reply to M.S.A.

one thing about gluing cracks:
you don't have to glue the whole crack at the same time. if you use hot hide glue you can glue whatever parts of the crack you can line up perfectly and let it dry. Then move on to another part of the crack. The part that you already glued perfectly will stay glued while you line up another section.

That way you won't have to sand through the finish to get level areas around the crack. That's too much sanding, you did not have to do that, but since this guitar already has that horrific Fishman cavern you should learn on this. One of the reasons repair work can be expensive is because to do a perfect job on a repair like this the repairer might spend a lot of time making cauls and doing dry runs to hold things flat. It takes time, sometimes chunks of hours or hours of clamping/cauling prep to glue difficult breaks.

As far as the Fishman, wow difficult. You can square it up with a file and glue a binding around it that matches the binding on the ribs, then set a piece of cypress within that square of binding. Not a fun job. Technically fairly easy, results wise seldom satisfying.

Honestly estebanana, how much would a professional Luthier like yourself estimate a client for doing a full restoration job?
Let's tell the man where he stands, cos I don't have a clue.

I think it looks a wreck myself. Sorry.

cheers,

Ron
