Best construction kit for beginner l... 
One of my students wants to learn how to construct guitars. He is an experienced and accomplished woodworker, and he builds furniture, so he knows his way around wood, and building with wood, and finishing. He has a fully furnished workshop.

He asked me to recommend the best kit to get started, along with any advice, caveats, admonitions, etc. that anyone here would care to give.

If he is an accomplished wood worker why build a kit? All the interesting stuff has been done!

Sorry can't reccomned a kit though :(

He will be taking a course in guitar construction. at which time he will "go all the way," but he felt that it might be helpful to first build a guitar with a kit as a preliminary to taking the course.

building is not for me , But , if it were and I was thinking of a Flamenco then the first thing I would recommend is to join this forum ... talk to the guys that know . find out the do's and dont's , and move on from there.....

A kit is really good for someone who doesn't have a lot of woodworking tools but since that is not the case here I wouldn't bother. There are some places that sell what is termed a raw kit which is basically just the wood pieces needed for the project and you usually get a little discount. Since you are in NY you should check out RC tonewoods they have good prices and even have sales on items.

Tell him to get Bogdanovich's book. A furniture maker could follow a furniture maker turned guitar maker. Bogdanovich uses modern furniture makers carpentry, the book is reasonably priced. The information about how to make the guitar flamenco can be gotten by looking at flamenco guitars and having a few conversations with someone who makes them and classical guitars.

One could do worse than this, kits are just a box of parts.

Thanks to all. I checked out RC, and it sounds like a great idea. I will suggest it to him. I will also suggest that as he gets going he join the Foro where he can ask questions of the luthiers here.

This post crossed my last one. Thanks for that. Clearly it's a good idea for him to get a book. I'll recommend that one. As you say, I'm sure he'll relate to Bogdanovich.

I used Roy Courtnall's book "Making Master Guitars" and bought a fully serviced kit from LMI for my first guitar and it worked out pretty well. Using the kit for the first one, IMHO allowed me to learn the basics before I built the rest from scratch.
