do these guitars sound the same?

To my ears they all sound abit different, but they are all Reyes guitars. Is it only the recording that is making them sound different, or do Reyes guitars vary also in sounds. Which guitar has The Reyes sound or are there many reyes sounds?
edit. I changed the first example. Now they are all Manuel Reyes blancas. first is 1993, second 1985, and the third I dont know but the example is based on the strong rumor that Vicente playes Reyes.

Man!! we have so many factors here:

1) The first one is a Negra, the others Blancas
2) We have 3 different Players here with totally different way of Playing Guitar!
3) We have 3 totally different recording enviroments

uups, I meant to compare only blancas.
I gues you mean that they dont sound the same. But what then is the reyes sound, because everybody is anyway usually hearing the guitars from records played by different players and cant compare the guitars personally. And people talk about reyes sound, even in this forum.

As I wrote a few days ago:

A Parallel story:

Last time I spoke to José Luis Postigo, who is a very good player, who has a shop in Sevilla and a very interesting collection of high end flamenco guitars, specializing in Reyes which is what he plays himself.
He told me that Vicente Amigo had changed his Reyes Blanca to another Reyes blanca from Postigos collection.
The reason: V. Amigo found that the one he had was to classical......

So, I´m not the only one saying that M. Reyes guitars can be very classical and full of harmonics and sustain. They have their followers and they suit lyrical players like V. Amigo and Postigo very well.
But its only one style of flamenco guitars. I personally prefer a raspier, faster and more percussive instrument.

i fully agree.

imagine Diego del Morao or Moraito playing with V. Amigos guitar , their percussive powerfull Jerez Style.

that would sound different and maybe too "singing" for that style.

each player has to find the right guitar for his playing and his style.

Anders gave a good answer.

Reyes Guitars, in general, are bright, singing, lyrical, with more sustain, etc.

To give you an example, we have a Foro member, Jim Opfer, whose playing fully suits these guitars. you can find more vids in his channel

you can play a lot with the trebles and make them almost cry, etc....
like Vicente does...

not my kind of guitar, but many people like that

exactly. What is interesting is that even V. Amigo finds that some Reyes guitars are to melodic and classical.

Sounds acceptable definition. But then the differences in Reyes guitars. In each of the examples the basses sound different.
first clip: propably new strings and they have abit metallic sound.
second clip: basses come more from the "throat", abit like santos hernandez but not so much.
third clip: most lyrical and balanced. Basses in between metallic and throat sound.
I dont believe that these differences are only from the recording but that the guitars have their personality and thats why Vicente switched his reyes.
Im just curious because people talk about reyes sound, and to me its many different styles. Sure theres the sustain and bright trebles, but otherwise Reyes guitars seem to have different caracteristics.

True, but thats not really what I was asking.
But someone asked me If my guitar has a reyes sound, so Im trying to figure out what it is. Now I start to realize that theres many Reyes personalities that all have something incommon. Mostly the sustain and bright trebles.
Can anybody show a link to Tomatito playing reyes, I associate him with conde, but would be interresting to hear hes Reyes.

Bravo, very nice sound and playing. That guitar really sings.
One more clip. You can correct me if Im wrong, but Im quite sure he playes also reyes.

Sometimes this is mentioned when people are trying to sell a guitar other than one made by Reyes, it's just sales talk.

Maybe it's fair enough if it's a Reyes copy like yours. I hope you are enjoying your new guitar!

Aleksi
Interesting thoughts and they just tell me that its best not to say that ones guitars sound like Reyes, Conde, Contreras etc. It could easily end up being very confusing explain why a guitar doesnt sound like Vicente Amigos etc.

In general, when someone is interested in a guitar that sounds like Reyes (or some other builder) I advice them to buy a Reyes guitar. Its not worth dealing with clients wanting something else than what they are buying.

People talk about the sound of conde or the sound of reyes etc. For Reyes I think that its the bright singing trebles and the sustain. Its lyrical guitar. But sound isnt always the same, only some fundamentals. I gues its the same for who ever builder who has found hes sound. The feeling is there, but the guitars are individuals.

definately!I said in the other thread that it has its own sound because I didnt know what is a reyes sound. I dont really care if its the same because its really a pleasant guitar to play. But I started to think about and searching what is the reyes sound.

Anders, we were writing in the same time so I saw your post only now.

I agree with that. Copies are always copies. A man can be only him self and usually hes the best at it.

If the guitars of a builder sound anyway different, it should be like "same sound like Vicente Amigo on de mi corazon al aire" and then mentioned that if you really want to sound like him its not only the guitar but you must learn how to do his famous lute squeeck also.

Granted, but they could be good guitars in themselves no?

Did Navarro just try to emulate some kind of construction technique when he made the Reyes model or was he trying to get close to the sound and feel as well?

I made a thread about the my Navarro here and your question is quite interresting so I'll put it there

Yeah, absolutely...

That's a bit like dating a small, brunette girl and saying..." My taste is really for tall, blondes...but they always cost so much to take out for an evening...".

Show 'em the f'ing door straight away IMO. (after a well-aimed boot to the balls).

(BTW: Does anybody make a decent cheap copy of a Fiat Punto 1.2L?
Mine is on it's last gasps and I think I'm gonna need a replacement.

cheers,

Ron

I can sell you 1994 model but it will cost you twice more than new one, because its old.

Nice box if you like to be left wathing the landscaoe while waiting for the crane to take you away.
My Mercedes 190 diesel. Just turned 25 years. I think it might last for another 25 years. I can recommend it. But its kinda slow.

f-ck punto.

i will never ever buy a fiat again.

the only thing that worked in my car without any problem, was the stereo sound system.
other than that,,,,, something had to be repaired on a weekly basis.

i think what punto is for cars, is what andalucian guitars is for guitars

just burn them both

My grandpa had the same model. They last forever!
When they were new the price was probably the same as for a Reyes guitar that you buy today.

The old Mercedes rule.
My Dad had a S-Class S280 from 1984.
It was like a Ship.
When we sold it, it had like nearly 500.000 km and still no problems with the Motor. Some guy bought it for export to Africa.

andy, wow lots of snow, looks quite the same as winter here.
this thread turned into car exhibition. Im cool with it, I got to think about the sound qualities long enough for now.
this was my car 1995 toyota carina. I had the accident just before christmas. I was lucky to duck down before the trailer crashed. Im happy its so old that it doesnt have airbags otherwise my head would have been propaply speared.

I have no idea how many km my car has. It says 277000. But I´m sure it has a lot more. My mechanic has one which has passed the 1 million km.......... But its not so easy to find cheap spares for them now.
Toyota Carinas are very good and strong cars. Take care of it
