I´ve started a blog for a little while. I will upload pictures, comments, maybe an essay or two, videos and other stuff.

It´ll be mostly from my guitar workshop, but some boat things will be there as well.

That looks like a sweet pram dinghy Anders. A friend and I made one at school out of marine ply. It eventually sprang apart and became a 1x12 speaker cabinet that I then sold to another friend when I was 15 along with a PA amp from a submarine.

I was to be reunited with them both 15 years later when I joined his band and he was still using them. So your pram may be around for a long time and perhaps in another guise

We weren't on the water. It was a design from a magazine out of one sheet of marine ply and involved some mild bending to form the prow. I think it was screws and expoxy but it didn't hold. A long time ago although I do recall buying the wood from school and the two of us walking this bloody great sheet of ply 3 miles home and nearly losing it on a windy bridge over the river.

Its a great story Simon.

I can see two snotty kids with a 8 x 4´plywood sheet flying around on a bridge. I´m sure it wasnt that funny back then.
Its a petty the thing sprang apart. Maybe if you´d finished it you would have been one of these active outdoor persons instead of sitting indoor with the computer all day long.

Soundports
kick

Its a typical case of "little change - big effect".

Excellent looking soundport there Anders!

I wish I had one....I think soundports would be especially good for us "hobby guitarists" as it gives more direct feedback of the sound.

cheers,

Ron

You should put a soundport in that boat! I wouldn't put it on the bottom though, that might be bad.

Thanks for thee nice words.
Ron, you could have a soundport made in your guitar. No big deal. Just remember that it should have some kind of reinforcement bars on both sides of the hole.

Hi Anders,
have you already tried to make different soundport designs?
Would it be technically possible to cut the design before bending, taking in account the angle of bending if it needs to be perfectly circular.

I dont know if its technically possible. But I cant see how it could be done. If you look close at the photos, you´ll see that the soundport inlay is "anchored" on a base plate glued on the inside of the guitar. This makes it very strong. If you cut the design first, I cant see how you can make it an integral part of the guitar side. And so it will end up being a weak part of the guitar.

No I havent made more designs. This was made by Mrmagenta and I like it a lot. So for now, i stay with that one, but maybe some other day. And in this case It wont be circular.

Ah, now I see!
I thought the design was inlayed and reinforced around.
Yeah, I remember the high times of the soundport discussion and MrMagneta's design....
