Born to be a Flamenco !

Last night I went to my favourite bar a with a few friends and flamencos. Manolo de dos cabellos played guitar and everyone sang and danced, yeah even me, much to the delight of various tourists having tapas, and the waiter whose birthday it was. Almost immediately we were joined by a small toddler who came into the middle of our circle and raised his arms and stamped his feet and clapped. It was amazing. His mother came over and tried to take him away but we said no he's no bother and he spent the rest of the night with us. He was about 20 months old and Gypsy but had been adopted by his mother at one week old. His mother had no links to any flamencos and was astonished as we were at his ability. He was even clicking his fingers in time. The only thing he didnt do was sing, and that was maybe as he hadnt even started talking yet ! I have seen many talented youngsters, some as young as this little guy but never one who had no connection whatsoever to flamenco. It was astonishing.

Uh-oh. What kind of thread are you trying to start Kate?

LOL not trying to start an argument, just sharing. We've all been pretty depressed about the flamenco scene here in Granada since our flamenco bar Eshavira closed down, so it was great to have a spontaneous juerga. The kid just gave me so much hope for the future as well. Everyone in the bar was loving it, after a whole night of eating tapas and drinking good wine, the bill was 4 euros per person. turns out all the other customers had been buying drinks for us. Today I have a humdinger of a hangover !

Yeah shocking isn't it. The building was deemed structurally unsafe back in 2007 and since then we have been waiting for this to happen. It was still a shock when it did though ! The building was very old, and had housed french soldiers during the french occupation. It is said there are old tunnels underneath built by the French. Afterwards it became a home for abandoned children, hence the name, Casa de la Cuña.

Anyway, we have no idea how long it will take for the structural work to be done and we are just all hoping that the landlord keeps his promise and lets the Eshavira return. Hopefully it will be just the same as it ever was only with better facilities.
