The voz afilla seems to have gotten out of fashion.
I love it. It gives me shivers.
Take Juana la del Pipa for example, at first you can't tell wether it's a man or a woman singing ...

For some reason I tend to prefer the cantaores payos, perhaps because I find the gypsy too jondo and often can't relate. For example I just love this:



I love that style of singing. I think there's a name for it, but can't think of it now. Perhaps my tastes just tend to ornamentation. I love how Cano seems to barely hold back the sobs here, from about 6:05 to 6:10:



True feeling or artifice? I don't care. My preferences are probably formed by an early infatuation with falsetto singing, you know, Smokey Robinson, "Mule Skinner Blues," "Malagueña salerosa" and "El pastor" of música guasteca.
