Kate,

Did you hear the one about the Irishman, Englishman, Scotsman, American, Mexican, Canadian, Chinaman, Spaniard, Gitano and Japanese guy?

They were all members of an internet forum who conversed, argued amiably, joked, repected each other and learned a lot about life. Thing is, most of them had never seen each other. Must be something there about ingrained wrong conceptions that makes a joke about "face-value" ((-:

What flamenco community did i grow up in?

Well, i cant remember all the names, but basically, from when i was
5 years old to about 13, my Father had a fairly large flamenco troop.
Himself, some other guitarists, many dancers, and singers.

Mostly all from Spain. Few of them spoke any english. THey
did all the rehearsals in my house. I was learning to accompany
quite well back then, but never kept it going. Too interested in guitar.

Maybe you remember a guitarist named Carlos Ramos? Or maybe
Paco De Malaga? Paco took me to meet Paco de Lucia when i was about
10 years old. Good guy. :)

Anyway, i suppose we were too busy making music and having fun, and didnt
have time to discuss the origin of gypsies.
Now that i'm writing this, it actually makes perfect sense. We'd have never,
sat there and talked about what exactly gitano really means.
It doesnt have any thing to do with the price of butter, to pardon a saying.
The music was the important thing. Not family trees.
I come from a long line of German medical doctors.

My father and i are the black sheep of the family.

Oh god, should i not have said "Black" sheep? Man, i'm such a racist! :)

Okay Duende, him too, and probably a few more I missed; but I'm sure you got the point These days I try to ignore any accents when someone is talking and just listen to what they are saying: I learn much more that way. I once spent a night in Spain with several couples of mixed nationalities and few of us knew what anyone else was talking about. We just laughed a lot and drank a lot more. We all had a ball. Must mean something good.

Best.
