RE: Peter Evans... !!! (in reply to M.S.A.

I remember Peter Evans from when I was a busser at Ventana restaurant in Big Sur CA. He played on the patio on weekend afternoons. He was very cool. Occasionally he gave me rides home from work after we finished. I used to talk about guitars with him. He played an Oribe with a cedar top at that time.

He also composed, writing some of the material he played. He did a solo concert with the Monterey Symphony for which he composed a fandango with orchestral accompaniment.

A few years later when I was studying anthropology at Monterey Peninsula College I saw him in the cafeteria. I said "Hey man what you doing here?" He said "I'm studying to become a nurse." He became a flamenco playing nurse. He was such a nice guy, probably still kicking around in Monterey.

Hola todos,

I had to bump this thread up. I saw Peter at a local restaurant here in Carmel-by-the-Sea (Central California coast) last night. He plays here every Monday night at a Basque-themed restaurant (Mundaka). Unfortunately, he plays quitely in the background without much fanfare. There isn't any Flamenco community here sadly. He has produced a CD (1990) with the typical Flamenco bits. He is older than I expected and his playing is very "1960's", but done well. It was a joy to hear him. On the CD it states: Guitar by Jose Oribe, 1964 "Flamenco".

Cheers to him and to you all!
