RE: Classicals Flamencos and Negras (in reply to Ron.M

Last time I saw Quique was at the Sevilla Flamenco show, must have been 5 years ago. He seems to have disappeared and his place as everyone´s favourite accompanist has been taken over by Carrion.

Estela might know about him: she is more in the mainstream than I am.

Looks like Jeff is selling them on ebay for about $1395, I'm not sure how I feel about that.

samewise,

Actually Jeff is not selling them direct. He has been building a few student level models that Rudy in Canada has been selling via Ebay. These are not his high-end models you see coming up, not that they are bad in any way. In fact I think they are incredible value. Were can you buy a hand built guitar for that kind of cash?

Hey Patrick,
Thanks for clearing that up.

In my less than humble opinion, the maker of the finest flamenco guitars in Spain is José Romero. He is easily on the same level as De Voe and Reyes and will make my next blanca.

Does Jose have a website? I haven't been able to find any info on him over the net.

Hola Sam and Chansey

Yes, that is José. 915 21 42 18 is his phone, 639 19 83 59 is his móvil. His taller is in Espoz y Mina in the heart of Madrid. Well worth a visit if only to smell the wood.

Just a note on this discussion. Stop complaining about guitars, strings, nails etc.. They do nothing to improve yourself. Just get a cheap guitar and strings..

Regards,
Cheston

PS. I'm kidding by the way. Just jealous that I can't play well and neither do I have the money to buy a nice handmade guitar.. And that site looks so darn good too.

I wonder if you know what are Romero's current prices?

Hola nealf

I am no great expert, but I know José's prices are around 4000 euros, depending on various factors. I would take him out t0 lunch and negotiate.

Eladio´s guitars are not as good as Gerundino´s, though they worked side by side. They should be a lot cheaper. Eladio´s speciality was buying wood.

The guitar I had for a while is now played by Raúl Vicenti, Roman´s younger brother: it is a good professional instrument: he has played it while sitting in for El Perla and accompanying the Farruco family.

Incidentally, I try to assess quality independently from price:Raúl bought his Eladio for about 600 euros: my current favourite is a beautiful 1972 Mario Melero, which I got in a swop!

Suerte
