First of all let me point out, that Peacock Music, is THE OLDEST GUITAR SHOP IN SAN FRANCISCO,...since 1974 i believe....
While it's not the biggest, or may not always have the best selection, there are a bunch of affordable guitars to be had ALWAYS.
Mr.George Peacock is known to be a luthier, and hand makes flamenco guitars from scratch...that's his specialty.
He's fully competent in all aspects of guitar knowledge and repair. Don't let his sometimes quiet responses be misconstrued for rudeness, he's just thinking of something else.
I've purchased several guitars there, including a gibson sg-z, and a Groove Tools by Conklin bass.....loved them both...
You gotta be at the right place at the right time to catch a good deal...
And he'll never flash on you and yell in your face, like some other guitar shop owner stll living in arbitrary denial...
"we don't even carry Heritage guitars...duh..."....

Awesome and very old guitar store and Mr. Peacock himself helped me.

My mother made me a guitar and something was slightly off so it wouldn't play correctly. He told me that it could cost me either $75 for the cheap fix or $600 for the expensive. He recommended I go the cheap route to start.

He fixed my guitar in one week and only charged me $75. It is perfect now.

He is skilled and honest. Hard to find nowadays. I just wish he had a web site so he could sell his guitars all over the world.

(Note: for anyone that wants this place to function like a Guitar center... my recommendation is don't go here... it is worth the unpredictable hours to go to Peacock Music)

Damn, I haven't been here in 20 + years and it's good to see that Mr. Peacock is still here.  Damn it... it warms my heart I tell ya!

Anyway, if you thrash your guitars the way I do and need to get that bezel/pick-up/fret/whatever guitar problem you need fixed, definately take your business here.  Nice guy, nice prices, personable, and hella cool.  That's right I said HELLA!

I have had several mandolin repairs done at Peacock Music over the years. It has always been a great experience. This guy knows what he's doing, and does it well and for a fair price. I'd trust him with my child. Well, if my child were made of wood and had strings attached.

One of the few places in town where you can drop off your instument for a repair, get it done for a reasonable price, and have it back in a reasonable amount of time. Get almost all my work done here.

For my elementary needs, the proprieter has done a great job and it's reasonably priced.  What's frustrating are the lack of regular hours.  He's pretty much there when he wants to be, which is one thing...but there's nothing on his outgoing phone message about business hours, and I left a message once that was never returned.  Even if the hours are irregular, it would be nice to be able to tell when he WILL be there.  Customers need to know this kind of stuff.

This little neighborhood instrument shoppe is not a giant, anonymous, faceless factory so that's nice.  I bought a violin pickup online and had the guy (I think it's Bob Peacock?) install it.  Now he told me up front he's not a specialist in that kind of thing but it shouldn't be a problem installing it.  So I shouldn't be surprised that I'm not thrilled with it. It's a bit too high and wasn't shaved down enough.  And I seem to remember having to go back a couple times because it wasn't ready.  My recommendation: it's an okay place to get the job done but probably better for guitars than other stringed instruments.

This is the best place to go in the city for guitar accessories especially.  The guy who owns the place is so generous and helpful.  He always hooks it up with a cheaper price than what's on the price tag of anything.  A lot of places like Haight-Ashbury music have a bunch of self-righteous ****s that make you feel like an idiot.  Not peacock music.  You'll get what you need for cheaper and with lovely and efficient customer service.
