quote:

the way i interpreted it is that everything is shifted down one beat because he plays an open E string instead of the bass C string followed by an arpeggio. so now that everything is shifted down one beat, he has to cut the last two bass in half to end on ten. kind of hard to explain but i hope you get what i mean.

Yeah, that's how I think he does it too. I still can't tell if it is an intentional move though. He sort of repeats the figure of the first beats in the next compas, so that seems to indicate it is what he intended, but then if you listen to the original recording he plays a few weak notes in those parts, so could it just be a good save? Either way it becomes an interesting twist. To bad this section doesn't allow for pictures.

I practiced the picado part today. I think I can manage it decently after changing my angle a little and really focusing on planting. Still needs a lot of work and reprogramming.

i played it a couple of times, but only from tab, i haven't had the time and energy to memorize it...too many things going on with a new job, another muy importante job interview to prepare for, not to mention a performance coming up in a month plus the dance classes to accompany twice a week...
some time next week when i have more time on my hands i'll try to learn and upload it onto youtube...

Bravo there Jimi!

These are terrific falsetas, but unfortunately require a terrific technique to pull them off!
That "sliding picado" part was evil for all contestants and I bet there are only a few advanced players who could do it justice.

You played some parts really, really well however!

As I said...Bravo!

cheers,

Ron

Chicuelos intro is tricky, but if you play it a lot you'll get a feel for where the notes want to be in the compas. I think you were close.

It would have been an easy victory had you participated. Perhaps we would need 4 levels in these competitions.. Some smoothing out and you'd rock this piece! nice work on the first half of habichuelas part with the arpeggios, alzapua and remates.

You played very close to the encuentro tab, and it sounds good. Only parts I would question in the encuentro transcriptions are - the syncopated ending of chicuelos part, it feels like there are too many strokes, either that or they should be played very softly after the accented beat on 3 and up until the dotted eights. And some details in the last compases of habichuelas part.

Thanks for the video!

thanks guys!
frankly, i should've worked on it a lot more, but i just can't these days...so i had the day off and spent about two hours learning this and uploaded it, i'll probably try and use some of these in dance accompaniments (the parts i can play loud enough :)) so i'll work on it more in the future...i'm full of excuses :) - but i'm never satisfied with what i do...

ps: i used Stu's tab, i didn't look at the encuentro, but i will now, to compare...

i'll need some more time for my video. my nails are being mental. they're cracking for no good reason.

I'm preparing some bulerias stuff for a dance class right now, so it's taking my focus at the moment, but I'll upload a video as soon as I can. I haven't made much progress yet. The picado comes a bit easier now perhaps. Alzapua still needs a lot of work to sound decent when up to speed. The habichuela triplet falseta at the end needs attention too. I saw habichuela play a version of it in the 'tesoros de la guitarra flamenca'-series.. I need to work on the musicality of it.
