Basque music

A friend sent me this and I thought I'd upload it here. Notice the "3+3+2+2+2" rhythm. Years ago, I read that this rhythm is used in a kind of Basque music called ezpata-dantza (looks like it means "sword dance"), in the parts called banako, binako and laudako. But I don't know anything about Basque music and I only listened once to a bit of one recording a long time ago. In this video, they seem to be calling it a fandango.

I dunno about the rhythm, but I love accordion! It probably explains why women avoid me like the bubonic plague. I can't recall having heard Basque music before, perhaps if I have I probably wouldn't have known it anyway, but I really liked that music there. Sorry I can't be of any help.

Man, this is disappointing - I thought all Basque music was in 5/8!

So that's what they call a fandangua or fandangoa...it's reminiscent of the kind of 'fandango' found occasionally in 18th century 'classical' music - basically oom-pa-pa with some hemiolas.

Good to know that the Basque word for accordion is trikitixa.
