Smug early birds take note: Night owls actually have more mental stamina than those who awaken at the crack of dawn, according to new research.
“It's the late risers who have the advantage, and can outperform the early birds,” said Philippe Peigneux, a professor of clinical neuropsychology at the Free University of Brussels in Belgium, who along with co-author Christina Schmidt published the counterintuitive findings in the latest issue of the journal Science.

Same here as at_leo_87
Whenever I wake up before the alarm I have fresh energy to tackle unpleasant tasks like housekeeping chores etc. In the evening and especially at night, i.e. in case of a sleepless night I can customize clothing, make a whole diary out of a blank paged book (are these called dummies everywhere?) and write stuff/ columns more easily than during the day, etc.

I can't help it; I wake at dawn or before, many times practicing in the dark with a cup of coffee... Maybe from being a surfer for so long, chasing waves before daybreak?
But I have it figured out when I'm in Spain; I stay until 11 or 12 at night, go home and sleep (I wake at dawn, regardless), get coffee, and 'go back', and say I was "out back" all night, or someone grabbed me and we went to another party, and "HEY! Let's go...Why is everyone so sleepy!!??"

Well that is great to hear, because I am a night person, and though sometimes depending on my schedule I am a morining person, which means that I can go around the clock. You know go around the world as so to speak, but more importantly I am a night person.
Sometimes I have great energy in the early morning, but night time kicks it all. I don't know what to do, but I pay for my erratic sleep habits with pass out time and naps, and lot's of sleep which is great because I don't care. You get fresh brain chemistry and brain fluid, you're rested. You're active with work and activity and get things done, what is the use in the standard schedule??? Gary Great news!
