RE: Devoe on eBay for $3,400 USD (in reply to Pgh_flamenco)
great price for a DeVoe blanca...funny how the seller doesn't mention the green tint until someone asked about it. I say tack on another $1000 for refinishing work if that is still possible to do on this guitar.. maybe you can look past the green back and sides. I've seen this guitar floating around for awhile since the early 90's. I'm not sure if Lester made more than one though..

Umm, a blanca en verde kind of misses something fundamental, no? This is like a pink Shelby Mustang GT500. It goes like stink but you can knock off $20,000

In 1988 Lester was just beginning to make a name for himself. I think that his best work is being produced today, but still this instrument intrigues me and I am watching it. I think it's a hell of a deal depending upon action, and actual condition.

In my opinion it isn't green enough. If it was greener it would have better contrast and look more confident. This slight tint reminds me of impregnated wood and looks uneasy. I think a green flamenca needs a special kind of player though :)

Nope.
I must say I think the lacquer fumes went to Lester's head on this one. I am sure it's a nice guitar but if I were him I would buy it, refinish it and make some money on the resale.

I cannot imagine an uncompromisingly old-school luthier such as DeVoe, known for promoting the highest standards in his choice of material and construction, would have indulged in such an extravagant and yet unpleasantly deviating “finish”. Most likely to please a customer’s whim, I am sure.
The end result –I agree with MrMagenta- is the unforgiving appearance of mold growing on the wood surface, with that repulsive discoloration, presumably the colony of some alien fungus.
Aaron is absolutely correct in his prudent advice: someone (ipse Lester, perhaps) should buy it and restore it to its Blanca genuine color or lacquer in red, if necessary.
Personally I would not buy it or touch it, as I know I would psychological cringe and experience allergic reactions at its sight. However, one would hope that [aside from the finish] the guitar is otherwise faithful to DeVoe’s blueprints. If so, it could be a nice bargain…. if planning to send the greeny to NASA first, for the necessary quarantine and clinical investigation.

The green tint is most likely a clients request..probably a huge Diego del Gastor fan that eventually came back to his senses and sold it . I found this on the sellers page on eBay:
Q: The side and back look slightly green. Is that the photo or the guitar? Mar-13-09 A: Yes, Possibly inspired from the legend of Diego Del Gastor noted in "The Flamenco Guitar" the green tint stands out a bit more in the photo's. Thanks for your intrest.
