Well I love Paco Serrano's work and Guitar Flamenco have hyped this DVD up a fair amount. My copy arrived yesterday and I thought it deserves a quick review.
So gone is the box Tv studio we are used to from the Encuentro series. Paco looks like he has been transported to the "Dragons Den" (probably one for the british). Its filmed in a urban chic warehouse style room.
The quality is excellent. 1024 x 576. And the the shots are nice and clear. There is quite a lot of camera panning which I think this is a bit over the top. It makes it hard for flamenco geeks like us to always see whats going on. But on the flip side you get good details of both hands.
The double e-book is just 2 PDFs one with the compas variations, no tab, but they are pretty simple to follow on the DVD.
The other PDF has all the Falsettas tabbed. I have not tested them but I imagine they are really accurate.
The intro technique and basic compas are really brief. I was really surprised how brief. No more than a minute or so per Palos. Strangely it does not even say what Palos is what, but if you know some flamenco and have the case, its obvious.
No mention of accents or anything. I think this was a bit of a missed opportunity. I was really hoping for something in depth, new and inspiring like they are doing over at....
Still it is all very cleanly played and good to learning material.
The falsettas are where the DVD gets really good. They all sound great, and are all played very clearly, slowly and once again near tempo.
Paco taps his foot very clearly too so they are really easy to follow.
There are about 4 Falsettas per Palos. They look and sound more playable than anything in the Encuentro series, so for me its great to have all this material that I know I could probably nail and play out with friends in the near future.
I am dissapointed that these falsettas are not bulked out by some compas variations. I certainly get as much or more out of those bits on Encuentro DVDS such as Tomatitos or Chicuelos.
Here is a time break down of the DVD content. I think its about right but I may edit my post sometime.
Overall I am really pleased to have a load more accessible material. I think the claim of "3 DVDs in one" is a bit of an exageration and would have liked a bit more compas analysis, variations.
Anyway we are all so lucky that there are quality material like this to learn from.
Olé Paco and team.
Looking forward to seeing some other thoughts here soon.

Mine arrived yesterday.
Just to add onto johnnefastis's review, there's actually 5 falsetas for solea/alegerias (in C)/fandangos/seguiriyas/tangos, 4 for bulerias, 3 farruca.
The slow downed video for the falsetas are super clear in video, very clean in playing. Like johnnefastis said, there is video panning, but I believe only on the fast version of the falsetas. But not enough to be distracting to me. Video quality is wonderful and clear.
I originally thought there was a metronome backtrack playing but realised that it was actually Paco Serrano's foot tapping, so the timing is very clear.
The video is extremely well shot, definately better than his Entruento(spelling?) video.
The techniques section is brief, I think Gerardo's Entruento dvd has better technique section.
The compas section expects you to break up eg 123 from this compas variation with 456 of another then 789 10,11,12 of another. Nothing spectacular in this area, he didn't demonstrate/explain how we can put variation to the compas playing, which would be excellent. Maybe in Vol 2?
Falsetas, as said, sounds really playable and I think very melodic and beautiful sounding.
I would def recommend this video compared to his other video.
Maybe he can do Vol 2 about compas variation on the differnent forms?

That is correct, but the "Estilos Basicos" is not in tab. I can not understand why, the producers must have know that a lot of us do not read music and tab was necessary.
That to me was a big disappointment with the "Manual de la guitarra flamenca",

Paco has decided to not make the tablature for the estilos basic for a very clear reason. The estilos basicos are the examples of compas, where you must understood the compas...and the better solution is write this in music and see and listen the record of this estilos by Paco... We haven't negative basic about this...and we think like Paco that in music the campas is the only possibility to understood...
