I took flamenco guitar lessons for 6 months when I was a teenager. Now 48 years old and decided to take it up again.
I have general guitar skills from years of hacking out chords accompanying singers, so quite strong hands. But my flamenco skills are now almost zero.
I would be really grateful if someone could someone recommend tutorials (preferably book+CD/DVD). I obviously need to start from scratch. I have already ordered:
•ESP18545 - Play Solo Flamenco Guitar with Juan Mart-N: Volume 1 [With CD and DVD] •ESP19894 - Play Solo Flamenco Guitar with Juan Martin: Volume 2 [With CD and DVD, I think] •La Guitarra Flamenca (Faber Edition), by Martin, Juan •The Keys to Flamenco Guitar, Volume One [With CD], by Dennis Koster
but I don't want to waste precious time on sub-standard stuff.

==> EDIT 09May2013: Btw... I didn't mean to say that the above courses are 'sub-standard' at all. The Juan Martin ones look great to me on Amazon ... Its' just that I would like to know if people think there is anything better/more approrpiate for beginners. Thank you kindly :)

Welcome to the foro.
Don't know what to picture myself with "sub-standard stuff" but if you like Juan Martin you might also like Paco Peña's "Toques flamencos" (not really for beginners but a nice collection of pieces/variations).

Dear Escribano. Thank you very much for your suggestion. I have ordered his 3 DVDs ("The Visual Method of the Flamenco Guitar") and also his "Academic Treatise" (5 books and CDs). Should keep me busy for the next 30 years!

Those are good materials that you’ve got already. There’s also a lot of rubbish out there.
In addition I would also recommend:
• The Flamenco guitar by JuanGrecos (Donn Pohren’s brother-in-law). It’s an old book, without a CD or video, and it’s now out of print; but you may be able to pick up a second-hand copy for cheap. The material and the pacing of the lessons are both excellent, and the explanations are clear.
• Gerhard Graf-Martínez’s two-volume book/CD/video opus.

Hi Paul. Thank you for these suggestions. My materials are starting to arrive now and I'm starting to feel info overload! so I've put your suggestions on my wishlist. (Actually, I think that I already have Gerhard Graf-Martinez's opus somewhere. I need to check.)
