Spend about half hour a day on this challenge, got most of it (thats only my view) , but trying to get the speed up , little finger get stronger and faster

The "Secret" to this Bulerias... OK, the toughest part of this one is the decending lick, here is what I figured out and I believe matches exactly what Moraito is doing... The key to this is that you are tapping your foot on the two beat, 12,2,4,6,8,10,12 etc. Any other approach is crazy. When you get to the 10 and the start of the triplets it all matches perfectly with the two beat, just a little syncopated but only in 8th notes. I show the two beat below with the up arrowhead. Moraito even taps the guitar top on the two beat twice before he starts his rasgueo. It all fits perfect. I know the more advanced players said something like this earlier but it took a while for my thick skull to appreciate it. In the version Flo uploaded all of the ornamentals are removed and a couple of simplifications which I show. Why did it take me so long to get here??? Hopes this helps someone else... Cathulu that is really nice of you to help out your fellow competitors! Stars to you!! I don't wanna get everyone confused, so please someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought an extra compas always starts on 7? So it would go: 12,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,7,8,9,10,11,12,1,2,3,4,5,6 etc But maybe there are different ways to count it. Or maybe when you are Moraito you can count it any way you want! Actually I'm getting myself confused now - someone help!

Hey thanks Well, this descending lick definetly starts on the "10". I hesitated to number anything afterwards, just that when you get to the A note on the third "10", that also plays the part of the "10" in the compas. What happens in between just happens I think - when I practice it I don't bother actually counting, I just do it and feel the notes with the foot tap. I suppose when I get better I will feel them in my head without an external foot tap to help. It is just that these loops often don't help mark the two count, so for me the foot tap helps. I guess this proves that half compas can occur not only at the 12, but the 6 and the 10 and probably the 1 also. I would love if someone who actually knows what they are talking about will chime in. Finally I suppose that where ever you start the half compas is somewhat arbitrary, cause you will still get to the right place in then end. I could have just as waited to the 12 and started it there I suppose...

I think its easier and more logic in this case to simply cut the last compas in half, with the rasgueado. then just start the compas over after the rajeo. 12 3 6 8 10 6 8 10 12 3 6 8 10 or actually..just do, dont think. why count numbers

Ailsa, thinking about it some more, especially if you are doing rhythm like palmas or cajon, I think you are of course very right. But the deal is whatever you can do as a guitarist to simplify the piece and get you through it is what you should do. I think it really does not matter where you start the half compas because whatever you do you will still get to that A bass note feeling the 10. If it works for you to wait for the 12 to start you half compas as the guitarist then that's what you should do. Indeed it is better not to count it as duende says, as have many others in past threads. FYI, how I numbered it was I went back from that A bass note which is the 10, I could feel the 8, 6, 4 and the 2 before it, but anything before that was harder for me to feel. Before the 2 I am a bit lost due to all the syncopations. But when I get to the aforementioned 2,4 and especially the 6 I feel "safe", I can breath easy and I know exactly where I am again in the compas and what is coming up. So I guess that reflects my current limitations and why I am punching over my weight. Cheers!

Oh B*llocks! What to do? I can't even get my speed up to the slow bulerias upload speed cleanly... so should I go for it and be sloppy and flappy or play a slow slow bulerias relatively cleanly? I don't think I can get much faster between now and the deadline! Anyone else having trouble with the speed or am I the only one?

Hey cathulu, Important question and one I'm thinking about for the beginners challenge. My personal preference is for slower but clean, because at least that is well-played flamenco. Does it matter how much aire you have if it's sloppy? I'd be interested to know what others think tho - guys what's your view?

I agree with Ailsa. Playing slower but clean, correctly and in compas is better than fast but with many mistakes and not clean. Good news is that this Jerez Style. So even at slower speed, it still sounds ok, if you focus on the Aire instead and try to get the max. out of each note and each chord. Cathulu, is it a special part which you have trouble with speed? like the short picado part? Or the whole piece?
