I made a programmable flamenco metronome app for the iphone and ipod touch, Mobile Compas. it's on the AppStore.

A special feature of the iphone is you can make it vibrate in compas so you can feel the compas when it's in your pocket.

Soon as Apple makes home phones, yes. In the mean time if you want your phone to vibrate in compas you'll just have to shake it [:D]

Hey baby, feel the compas in my pocket.[:D]

Looks pretty slick, if you offered a desktop version for OSX I'd buy that - we Mac users still miss a good program for that.

…which makes it ideally suited to masturbatory solo-guitar playing.

Sorry! I couldn’t resist. Seems everybody’s working blue on the Foro these days…

Cool tech-tool, Guy.

DAmn and I'm a cheap skate who bought an LG

Mark2 -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Jan. 16 2009 12:53:31)

Bummer-i already bought a metronome and a tuner for my i-phone. It doesn't vibrate[:o]

Indeed. I'm a mac user as well and the lack of one is what prompted me to develop, but I couldn't resist doing it for the iphone. When I want to run it on a mac I use the iphone simulator

Well, I installed it last night. Thanks, it's pretty cool. I'd like to make the following requests, hoping that you update it as you can.

1. louder-I'd need to use ear buds to be able to play normally and still hear it the way I'd like to.
3. better quality sounds

the price is high for an i-phone app-I mean, 10 bucks sounds very reasonable, but there is a four track recorder for a buck. However, if you can get some better sounds, and more volume, then it will be incredible. As it stands, I don't regret the purchase at all. Thanks again.
BTW, there is a sevillanas app that has the letras to about 3k sevillanas and fandangos.

Thanks for being a customer and thanks for the kind remarks.

I wish I could do it louder, the issue is the iphone speaker sucks. On 3G iphones it is slightly better than on the original iphone. I have speakers connected to it and with good speakers the sound is also great. However, if you PM me which sounds you find lacking I'll try to improve. Any other suggestions are welcome.

As for the price, I think it beats the $300+ for the Oscar Herrero flamenco metronome.

Exitao -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Jan. 22 2009 20:59:39)

Think you could make this application for windows mobile?

Ramirez -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Jan. 23 2009 1:20:04)

OK, have just bought the app. Here are my thoughts:

The price is on the high side for an iphone ap, but you're right, it is cheaper than oscar herrero or the Graf martinez software. Easy to use, and looks good.

The main issue with it, as Mark2 pointed out, is the volume. It's just far too low to practice without headphones. I personally find having to practice with headphones a little clumsy and uncomfortable.

The iphone speaker is actually more than loud enough - ring tones, music and other apps all play with more volume than the sounds on your app when played through the speaker. I would strongly recommend increasing the volume on your percussion sounds as the iphone can handle it. Is there a way for you or your developers to sort this out?

Also a desktop version would be useful.

Many thanks.

Mark2 -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Jan. 23 2009 8:54:59)

Just want to add that I spent an evening playing along to it, and it was fun!!!! It's kinda cool to play a falseta and watch the clock and see, as opposed to hear, how your falsetas fall in the compas. If you have an i phone, buy this app. If you don't have an i phone, buy one-then buy the app. you won't regret it.

Ramirez -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Jan. 24 2009 8:09:20)

Ok, so after a couple of days with it, maybe I was nit picking about the volume - sounds great through little external speakers or just vibrating the compas on the table.

I also really like the fact that you can chnage the volume parametres on the percussion.

It really is a fantastic little app - a massive thank you for putting it together...

Will write a 5 star review on the app store for you in the next couple of days!

Glad you like it. I have another cool feature I'm working on at the moment, will release I guess in about a month. Thanks for writing a review.

My thoughts exactly, compared to over $300 another flamenco metronome costs, this one is less including the price of the iphone and you end up with a better metronome and a kick-ass phone.

Yeah, after that POS that was my iPod, I'll never buy an Apple product again, so if you can make this for Windows mobile, you'll get my money.

Adam -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Feb. 4 2009 16:36:01)

Fantastic, man!!

By lowering the price you will probably attract enough extra customers to make up for it (extra meaning non-foro! [:D]) but I'm digging the idea. Just downloaded it. I'm so excited to have a compás track in my pocket that I can practice along to. Especially since I switched to Mac and could no longer use the free metronome app on the foro. Awesome, man. Thanks a bunch.

HolyEvil -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Feb. 4 2009 17:20:13)

I'm all for the lowering of the price to attract more people.. because as much as i'm sure the metronome is well written, there are free metronomes out there for the iphone and paid metronomes are usually ranging from 1.99 - 3.99 which will do the job as well.. as long as it's set to 6/8 timing..
but of course.. i'm sure this metronome will be a little more beneficial for flamenco guys..

cheers

Black Sheep -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Feb. 4 2009 19:13:35)

This iPhone Compas Metronome is brilliant. It cost me $10 Australian. It is great to use and now there is a little upgrade the tempo slider is easier to use. It is great to play along with and you can practice Palmas when the traffic gets heavy on the way to work...

I much prefer the clock face style to a normal metronome.

One thing though... can you program random 'jeleos' calls... the odd 'Ole' or two every 3 or 4 compas! :)

I'll add that to the todo list...

gshaviv -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Feb. 4 2009 21:04:29)

Regarding the price, I don't think the price is high for what you get. You get a useful, well written tool, and it's utility should certainly be worth 10 bucks, it's not a lot. You can compare it to beatmaker, another iphone app which goes for $20, (after all, mobile compas is more than a metronome). If something is usefull, it should be worth 10 bucks to you, if its not useful, it isn't worth even a buck.

I don't know if you are aware of the big discussion developers are having regarding pricing in the appstore and how the appstore is causing prices to collapse to the point it is no longer justifying the developers effort. There are a few developers that ditched the iphone for that reason and returned to other platforms (like Symbian) where they can maintain a price.

This app has very little appeal to non-flamenco players. As such it is not a big seller, and dropping the price will not bring that many more customers. I have another app on the appstore that goes for a buck (non music related). It sells 10 times as much as the flamenco app, but costs a tenth, so it makes the same revenue, which in any case is only pocket money, not going to be able to retire on it... Not even to get a blanca from Anders...

I did the flamenco metronome not to make money, rather because flamenco is my passion and I wanted a tool like that for myself. I'm planning a few additional features for it which I think will make it an even cooler tool, I'll keep you posted (it will probably take me a month or two)

Sorry, no plans to go Windows... I was thinking of doing one for the Google phone maybe the palm pre once the sdk picture there clears out.

Exitao -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Feb. 4 2009 22:28:31)

Too bad, 'cause I'm not buying a new phone for this software. Maybe you'll reconsider if you take a look at marketability.[&o]

Black Sheep -> RE: Flamenco metronome for the iPhone (Feb. 5 2009 17:20:21)

Windows guys... there already is one for Windows... the Graf Martinez one. But compare the price...

gshaviv, does it run on the iTouch?
